A Day in the Life
Location: Main Storage
Timeline: Current - Before the SERE starts
Starbase 332's Quartermaster stood inside one of the storage centre's and stared at the empty shelves. She'd been at her new duty station for four days, the Captain was on a training mission and now she was being advised that several pallets of non replicated food stuffs which had been delivered for Diplomatic and Special occasions was now missing.
“Do we have a list of what's missing?” She asked.
“100 cans of anchovies, 237 bottles of oysters, 134 can's of crackers, 97 can's of tomatoes, 76 cans of potatoes, 13 bottles of dried pasta, 111 cans of smoked chilli oysters, 250 cans of flaked fish, 66 cans of flaked crab, 46 boxes of salted fish fillets, 190 boxes of rations flavours mixed, however whoever is responsible wasn't partial to beans, everything which contained beans was left. 74 cartons of chocolate. 255 tins of drinking chocolate and 556 cartons of wine. 443 cartons of beer, 98 cartons of boxed milk. 47 cartons of dried fruit.”
“Should I ask where we got all of that?” It wasn't standard. It wasn't normal.
“We have a lot of freighters which bring in items from wherever and we purchase the items. Traders on the promenade buy from us, we also supply the items for diplomatic events, or any other special events. The Academy gets supplies off us for events and lectures. It helps cut down on what the replicator's produce and we get items that the replicator's aren't programmed to produce. It's not only food stuffs we get. We get craft supplies which go to the education centre, we get hand made items from other starbases, people from Archa IV who grow crops and foodstuffs and the black market.”
“We have a deal with the powers that be on Archa IV, we pass on what we get to those who like to cook, and they put on special events. And those benefit the people on this base. People like fresh food, and they're willing to pay to attend those events. The money goes back to buy more fresh stuff.”
Carter didn't know what to do, or what to say.
