That Old Friend

Posted on Thu Mar 1st, 2018 @ 12:42am by Lieutenant Zev Darach

Mission: A Day in the Life
Location: Strategic Operations Office

Zev took a long drink of his coffee and then set the beverage down before going back to staring at the latest fleet deployment charts from command. He looked up as his doors opened and sighed heavily. Really, he needed to work on getting a guard.

"Oni, what are you doing here?"

The other Unkari smiled and sat down in the chair across from Zev's desk. He was handsome looking, with dark blonde hair, green eyes, and a build that showed he took his workout seriously. At the moment he was dressed in an incredibly expensive looking suit.

"And how did you get in?" Zev asked.

"I simply told your wonderful ensign out there that I was a member of the Unkari delegation and wished to have a world with you concerning some sensor data that one of our frieghters came across."

Zev frowned and pinched the bridge of his nose. "First off, we don't even have any frieghters in this area of space. And secondly you aren't now, nor have you ever been, part of the Unkari delegation."

Oni waved Zev's obecjtion away. "Don't get so upset, it's not like I drugged him or anything. And how do you know if we have any frieghters in the area?"

"I keep tabs on all freighter traffic in the area," Zev said, leaning forward a little more. "But you haven't answered my question. What are you doing here and what do you want?"

"I can't stop in to see an old friend?" Oni asked, smiling slyly at Zev.

Zev frowned. "We were never friends Oni."

"That's not what you said the last time we were in Risa," Oni replied. "I mean you said a lot of things but not that."

"That was a mission," Zev protested. "You knew that."

"So did you," Oni replied. "That didn't stop you from crawling into my bed."

Zev sighed heavily. He wanted to refute him but he knew that Oni was right, although their cover had been a married couple, after one too many drinks he let himself get carried away in a physical sense. Oni didn't stop what followed, however in the morning Zev knew that he had made a huge mistake. Apparently, Oni knew that too because he never let Zev live that incident down.

"Alright fine," Zev said, holding his hands up in defeat. "You win. I caved due to your amazing body and charms, now kindly tell me what the hell you are doing here?"

Oni pulled a PADD from his pocket and slid it across desk. Zev picked up the PADD and looked at it. "Am I supposed to know who this is?"

"His name is Edari," Oni replied, nodding toward the PADD. "The Intelligence Directive hired me to find him."

That didn't surprise Zev at all. Oni was a few years older than himself and had been a part of The Intelligence Directive, the intelligence division of the Unkari Navy. Oni had resigned last year and gone freelance, although his considerable intelligence contacts still made him a valuable ally to The Directive. At a price of course.

"They must be short on agents if they are hiring out finding guys like him," Zev said, sliding the PADD back across the desk. Oni picked it up again. "What's he done that has The Directive after him?"

"I'm not entirely sure, other than he has contacts to both the Orion Slave Merchants and the Black Stars Criminal Syndicate," Oni said. "And I heard a rumor that several possible BSC agents have been passing through this station."

Zev frowned. "Starfleet Intelligence hasn't passed that off to me."

"You're network isn't as good as mine."

"Apparently not and if I haven't heard anything then I doubt there is anything that I can tell. For a variety of reasons of course."

"Always loyal."

"Better than some," Zev replied. He pushed back from the desk. "And I have a weapons inspection that I need to get to. See yourself out."
