Another Day in The Life

Mission: What Lies Beneath
Location: Luciano's Office

Leo was neck deep in reports much to the disagreement of his eyes and his neck that had held the same position for the last 2 hours. He leant back in his chair to look at a wall, a painting, a light, anything other than another line of text that needed his attention. Walking to the replicator he fetched himself a sweet Tea, a sandwich and a napkin before sitting at his desk again.

Life on a station was different to that on a ship and he was prepared for it but even all the preparation in the world seldom fills the purpose when reality strikes. Aside from a few times getting lost on the massive station the crew were helpful, well trained and organised which spoke volumes towards Captain Von's standards and what she expects. He hoped he could step up.

He had not long just finished decorating his new office, nothing too much but enough to give it his own personal feel to the room. If he was going to spend a lot of time in this room when not in Operations he didn't see why it should be plain and boring. Things at his new home were settled and unpacked.

Leo was just polishing off the last of the updates from Command about his new assignment when he was informed that a communication was received for him. Leo had it routed to him so that he could take it privately. It was no surprise that the logo on screen was from Starfleet Command, who however was.

Admiral Sandra Wolf. Sandra was a friend of the family, worked with her personally a few times as well but kept in touch from time to time.

Leo knew Sandra from a wedding he was invited to as she was also one of the guests that attended. "Admiral, to what do I owe this pleasure?"

Sandra smiled, she always liked Leo's polite nature, and his accent. "Hello Commander, settling in to your new assignment?"

"Yes, finished unpacking last night." Leo replied.

"How do you find the Starbase?" Sandra asked leaning back in her chair.

"Its.....big, I look forward to seeing what she is capable of first hand." Leo spoke getting more comfortable himself. "You have a mission for me?"

"Unofficially yes." Sandra spoke. "A friend of mine was on a civilian liner, nearly 2,000 people on board didn't arrive at where they were going and now 3 days overdue. They were last headed to your sector, I'll forward everything we have so far but I'd like you to speak to Captain Von, see what you can do. Don't disrupt station operations too much, I'm not the sector commander for that region but I worry about my friend and like to see them safe."

"I'll speak to the Captain, I'm sure we can spare a ship to perform a search pattern." Leo spoke trying to be reassuring and helpful.

"Thank you Leo." Sandra replied, a smile, then the link closed.

It was a puzzling situation, it was not the first time Sandra had asked him for a favour. One time she tried to avoid a potential suitor so Leo turned up to her office with the biggest bunch of flowers to her office to dissuade the gentlemen. No sooner as the memory faded the information came through, it was detailed but still left questions by the time he was done with it.

The pressing issue however was every day more and more ships were docking stocked up with refugees, a rise in hot spots in the region was forcing more people to flee the region and as the only major hub in the area it meant they were all coming to 332. Unless they could think of something to do and soon it would begin to stretch the operational capability of the station to a limit, but he'd have to discuss that with Von before it got to that point.
