Unexpected suprise

Posted on Thu Aug 4th, 2016 @ 10:21am by Lieutenant Commander Craig Travis

Mission: Brave New World
Location: Kolver Base, Kolver IV

Craig had just finished overseeing a combat readiness drill. The men of Charlie Company had done an great job both in hustle, and tactical proficiency. As the drill was finishing up all Craig could think about was how much he missed being out there and being part of the group. He had caught heat from the Major because he had not been able to keep his hands off. Craig had found his way down in the mix of it on the second day playing Overwatch for one of the squads. Craig was made to be in the thick of it and ever since being promoted to Company XO something was missing in him.

The Major had called Craig in the office and he figured it was to go over the scoring from the Brig General that was critiquing the drill. As Craig walked in the Major's office he found the Major behind his desk and Brigadier General Stephens to his right flank and also a Rear Admiral was on the Major's other flank. Craig stood fast and straight and snapped off a salute to all in the room. "At ease Lieutenant." The Major offered him a seat in front of the tribunal.

Once Craig sat down he had a nag as to why there was a Fleeter in the room. "Sir, all report in the field is clear and cleanup has commenced." Craig just figured he would go with the flow.

"Good Job Travis, you ran a very good drill. Don't you agree General?" The Major gave his praise and turned it over to the his right. "You did an excellent job, the Company looks like it is ready for whatever we throw at it. I even heard you found yourself getting down and back to your roots a bit." The General had a grin on his face as he baited Craig.

"I did sir, at times I really miss being in the thick of it and one of the squad snipers was not cleared medically so I filled in." Craig has never one to play the political games and just spoke his mind respectfully.

The Major was next to talk. "I have always liked that you stay connected to what is going on in the thick of it all. That mentality has followed you from your time protecting the streets to your first couple years in training with them." The Major nodded at the Admiral. "That is why the Admiral has joined us today because we have a plan for your future. It is a change in pace. I know how much you love the Corp and that is why WE have to make this decision together." The Major paused and turned the floor over to Rear Admiral Waterman.

"The reason I am here is we have a Starbase that is in the Galactic South, part of the 11th Fleet that is in need for an Assistant Chief of Base Security. The problem is it is a huge base and the Security force works more like a Police force than your standard Security force. I was looking over candidates for it and with your past experience and high evals you are perfect for the job." The Admiral paused "The only thing I have to advise you on is it would mean transferring your commission over to Starfleet."

Craig was taking all this in. "Is the Corp ok with me switching over and this move? I ask because I would love to get back to doing a job like that. While I think I do a proficient job at leading the men I am a hands on kind of guy." Craig was trying to address the whole room.

The General was next to talk. "The Corp does back this move and any future endeavors you may go down. The one thing we would want to do and it is my honor to do is to promote you from 1st Lieutenant to the Marine Corp rank for Captain!" The General pulled out a box with the double bars inside. Everyone in room smiled as the General replaced the single bar with double.

"If you accept the transfer you will get to keep the double bars, because we want to laterally transfer that promotion to our rank of Lieutenant" Admiral Waterman chimed in.

Craig was just enjoying the moment. "I would just like to thank you all for this opportunity and a special thank you to Major for showing me the ins and outs of being a Devil dog!" With that everyone rose and saluted and Craig left to pack.
