Mission:
A Day in the Life
Location: SB332 - Shuttlebay 29 & Living Quarters
Timeline: Current
ON:
Cate looked out the window of the shuttle as it left the USS Ranger, the transport that had brought her here, and was impressed with the size of the station. Most of her fellow shuttle passengers were members of the Ranger crew on shore leave and the rest were civilians on holiday so the conversations were focused on their planned trips to the planet. Cate was on a different mission. She wasn't on holiday or shore leave. She was reporting to her new assignment.
The shuttle lined up with the opening of a shuttle bay and made its entry and, gently, set down once inside the bay. "Ok, everyone," the pilot called back from the cockpit. "Once you disembark, follow the yellow line on the deck to the security check pint. If the base has not already been notified of your arrival, you will need to produce your itinerary and any health issues. Welcome to Starbase 332 and enjoy your stay."
The door of the shuttle opened and the ramp lowered. The passengers crowded through the door and down the ramp.
Cate waited until everyone else had exited the passenger area so she could pull her two duffel bags out from behind her seat and slip the strap of one over her shoulder. Hefting the other, she made her way down the ramp and followed the others to the security check.
There were, of course, issues with some who had not gone through the proper pre-arrival preparations and it was ten minutes before Cate finally reached the check point.
"Welcome to 332, Lieutenant," the security officer said as Cate stepped up to him. "I need you to look into the ocular scanner, please," he said, moving the small device up so she didn't need to bend down. Cate looked into the camera and a few seconds later the security officer said. "Dr. O'Reilly....you have been assigned to quarters on Deck 80. Number 405. It'll be on the east side of the deck," he said, handing her a small PADD with a "you are here" map of the base. "Looks like you get an external suite with a window. Lucky you," he said with a smile.
Cate's combadge tweeted twice.
"That was just our system, activating your security access codes," the security officer said. "Do you need help with your stuff?" he asked.
"No thank you," Cate said with a smile. "I'm good."
"Again...welcome to the 332, Doctor," the young man said with a genuine smile.
"Thank you," Cate smiled back as she sifted the weight of the strap on her shoulder and moved through the cordoned area and out of the shuttlebay. Once in the corridor she looked at her map and found her way to the nearest turbolift. Several minutes later...and two turbolift changes...Caitlin stepped through the door of her assigned quarters and dropped her bags, taking a look around at her new surroundings.
