A Change of Scenery

Posted on Mon Oct 18th, 2021 @ 12:43am by Captain Liarra Von & Colonel S'er'in'e

Mission: The Archan Job
Location: Commanding Officer's Office

-------------------

Captain Liarra Von looked up from the PADD in her hand at the sound of her office doors sliding open. In front of her was the massive frame of her friend and marine force commanding officer, Colonel S'er'in'e. She gestured for the chair across from her. "You're right on time, S'er'in'e. Please, have a seat."

"Captain Von." S'er'in'e greeted, bowing in a no doubt familiar form by now. "Thank you."

Von gave him a moment to get situated. "How's the family doing?" she asked. While it could be considered small talk by some people, Liarra was legitimately interested in the well being of her friend, his mate, and their daughter. The baby had already been through a few ordeals in her short life.

"Well, however my Daughter seems to grow with each passing day." He remarked as he thought that one day she'd grow taller than Samanthia. "My Mate is also well." Now that he'd answered he asked a question of his own. "Have I failed in my duties in some form to be called so Captain?"

"No, no! Not at all," Von replied, shaking her head. "On the contrary, you've excelled in your duties. That's actually why I wanted to speak with you. As I'm sure you're aware, Commander Luciano recently left the station. And since then, I've been missing someone in Ops that I know I can absolutely rely on."

"I did notice the Commander's absence." S'er'in'e replied.

Liarra tapped a few buttons on her PADD. "I have a proposition for you. The recent business with General Lowe has taught me that we need to be better prepared to deal with any threat to the sector. I need someone who knows how to react to multitude of external threats. You already have a firm grasp on our marine battalion and air wing. How would you feel about add coordination of fleet activities to your repertoire?"

"How will you arrange this operationally?" He asked. "Typically such a role is afforded to a Fleet officer, which I am not and Marines are loan units to an assignment." While that may be true it was not unheard of that Marines did fill in as required where ever they were as long as the duties fell in line with the training.

"True, the role is typically a fleet role, and not a marine one. But it is a role that requires knowledge of many different areas, and someone with proven leadership abilities in order to coordinate all of the various functions." Liarra hand the PADD to S'er'in'e so he could read over the proposal. "I've already reviewed this with Admiral S'iraa, and he agreed with my proposal. Since strategic operations already works closely with the airwing and the marines for traffic control and searches, incorporating those departments under one chief made a lot of sense to me."

S'er'in'e took a moment to read through the information, a faint tapping could be heard as his claw tips touched the padd to scroll through the information. This would be a good opportunity for him he knew, an honourable note in his file towards the next promotion board. There was one element however that bothered him, he didn't want to be stuck behind a desk. At least as CAG he could if needed join his pilots, as a Marine he could act as training and skill demanded. "This role, it would prevent me from participating. I am a marine first and foremost and a trained pilot. If I accepted, would this keep me from engaging in my other duties as I am trained?"

It was a valid question, and one that was difficult to answer. The scale of their duties here on the station often left them stuck behind a desk, especially in Liarra's position. "I think that's something that we can discuss. The station command staff is responsible for coordinating sector security, and that will sometimes require trips away from the station. You might not get to fly quite as often as you did before, but that doesn't mean that you'll never get to fly."

"I understand." It was something to consider indeed however that Caitian trait of being subservient to the female was raising its head. He knew that he was being offered and opportunity to be of better aid to the Captain, being given an honour to serve in a more needed capacity than before. He considered his options, the ties, and decided. "Very well, I accept."

The corners of Von's lips curled up into a smile. "Excellent. I'm glad to hear it. Personally I'm going to be glad to have someone that I know I can trust and rely on in this role. There's been a lot happening lately between the Ritorians getting feisty, and the conflict between the Gorn and the Klingons heating up again. I'll certainly feel better knowing that you're on top of things."

"I sense things with the Admiral did not go well?" He was curious as to why Von would mention someone to trust, no doubt the Admiral had instilled some measure of worry for her to make that remark.

Von tried to be dismissive of the question. "This meeting went better than the last one," she muttered, not wanting to share more. "He was supportive of my proposal, and understood the need to have someone in the role who was already familiar with both the station and the sector."

S'er'in'e had learned how to read between the lines and detected the evasion of the question. "I understand." He answered. "Unless there is anything further, I should prepare for the new position and make arrangements."

Liarra shook her head. "Nothing else from me. I'm looking forward to working with you in your new role."

S'er'in'e rose but just as he stood upright another interruption peaked its presence.

Von's comm channel chirped. She tapped the panel on the table surface. "Von here. Go ahead Talelle."

The voice of Von's andorian yeoman came in over the desk speaker. "I'm sorry to bother you captain, but I've just received a request for you to head down to Admiral S'iraa's office. Actually, he's asking for both of you."

Liarra flashed a surprised looked in S'er'in'e's direction. "Thank you, yeoman. We're on our way." She pressed the button to close the channel. "I suppose you'll have to postpone making those arrangements."

"So it would seem." S'er'in'e answered. "Shall we?" His arm towards the door as if to let Von lead and himself to follow.

Liarra stood and moved from behind her desk. "We certainly don't want to keep him waiting."
