A Stitch In Crime

Posted on Tue Apr 24th, 2012 @ 4:54pm by Lieutenant Commander Sean O'Connell & Chief Warrant Officer Daryl Hastings

Mission: The Mystery Men of Mira
Location: Primary Security Offices [Deck 13]
Timeline: MD04 1100hrs.

[ON]

Sean looked annoyed as he entered his office the hearing was a farce in his opinion and just some bureaucrat trying to close the books on the Metis. He scowled at Jennings as he entered his office and started over these reports. Normally he would have sent in a small security team and check on the problems, but as of late he had been receiving reports from officers of different departments.

He looked up as he received a message from the Marines on their stop and search assignment. Sean had a quick glance at the scan and then had checked the database.

"Starfleet Security advises to impound the ship and all its contents. Several environmental rules have been broken and the ship seems to be altered without having filled the proper paper work with the federation ship registry database, O'Connell out."

He shook his head as he went back to his other duties. As of late he had been receiving reports of minor vandalism and thefts from the lower cargo bays. Also some unscheduled repairs had been done. He looked around to see if the Senior NCO and his Chief Warrant Officer, who both called it to his attention, where on duty.

"Jennings, send Master Chief Blanc and Mister Hastings to my office within an hour." Sean looked at the reports and sat back.

[50 Minutes Later]

Jack walked into the office and took a seat. He had investigated a few of the minor reports form the security details and the odds repairs and flagged it.

Sean looked at the MCPO and raised an eyebrow. "Mister Blanc I know you are a Investigator, but you're also a security staff member. I expect a certain decorum from my officers and my NCO. When one walks into his CO's office one stands to attention and reports in before he or she takes a seat."

Blanc quickly jumped out of the chair and stood to attention. "Master Chief Petty Officer Jack Blanc reporting in as ordered, sir, sorry about the mishap, sir. This Master Chief is used to an informal assignment, sir, my apologies."

"So noted, take a seat." Sean wasn't that formal, but he really didn't care much for the MCPO and he knew that the man wasn't that big on protocol.

"Now we'll just wait till Mister Hastings shows up. It's about your investigation of the lower cargo bays. I need to discuss it with both of you." Sean looked at the door.

Hastings appeared at the door of the Security Centre only a minute after the MCPO had disappeared into O'Connell's office. Since his initial poor first impression things had picked up for the Warrant Officer as he came to terms with his duties and responsibilities and working for the Lieutenant. He stopped short of the door and pressed the chime.

"Enter." Sean was looking at the door and then back at his console.

"Reporting as ordered, Lieutenant." He stated, making a vague attempt at coming to attention.

"Glad you could come mister Hastings. Have a seat. This is Master Chief Blanc, our senior investigator." Sean looked at Hastings and then motioned to the chair.

"Chief Warrant Officer." Blanc said and gave a nod.

"Master Chief." Hastings replied with a similar acknowledgement of the man.

"Well, with the niceties done we have some issues. Mister Hastings from your reports I received a few alarming notes about the lower cargo bays?" Sean looked at Hastings.

"Mmhmm," Hastings mused before launching into his pre-prepared statement of the facts, lilting across in his stuffy English accent, "we've had seen increased crime rates right across the lower decks. That's speaking for everything from cargo bays to guest quarters. However, it's the cargo bays where we've seen most of the loss. It tends to be the private bays that we rent out to the freighter pilots and the like that are seeing the most thefts but there has been a few raids on Starfleet equipment bays as well. It's all most troubling. It's as if all of the systems that could provide us with clues have been wiped, the transporter logs for the general vicinity all seem to have suffered a mysterious glitch of some kind."

"I concur with the Chief Warrant Officer. I have checked those areas with my team and we couldn't find anything. That's why I called it to your attention and added the Chief Warrant's report, sir."

Sean nodded as he listened and then raised an eyebrow. "Well it seems we might have something brewing. Now, both of you haven't been on the station that long so I won't assume you are familiar with the criminal element of this station yet. This might seem a bit weird, but in my opinion we need to know who and what we are dealing with. I suggest you two try to make contact with the criminal part of this station get some informers and try to find out what is going on." Sean bit his lip.

"Any idea where we should start looking, Lieutenant?" Hastings asked.

"I'll have a word with our Executive Officer. She's been on this station a longer than I have and she might be able to point me in the right direction. Besides I have to brief her on the heightened crime rate anyway." Sean said as he looked at his senior NCO and Senior Warrant officer.

"Understood, sir." Hastings replied, taking a note on his PADD. He would make his way to the promenade to speak to James Wilson. He may not have been on the station long, but Hastings knew how to find a man in the know.

Blanc nodded and left the office.n He was about to test a few theories which popped up during his initial investigation.

O'Connell swivelled in his chair to check the location of the Executive Officer. He knew the CO was off the station, but he hadn't checked where Commander Von was.
