Mission: Picking Up the Pieces
Location: Security gymnasium

[ON]

Sean stood in front of his training group. It had been a while since had taught a class in hand to hand showing the basic moves with Chief Petty Officer T'sar acting as an assailant. the group was composed of Security officers, officers from other departments, and civilians.

"When and attacker threats you with a knife the first aim in all cases is to keep the knife away from yourself at all cost." Sean motioned T'sar to attack with the imaginary knife. Sean easily used his left hand to block T'sar's left hand and pushing her hand downwards

"As you see by blocking the knife the Ensign and left me an opening. In most of these situations your assailant might be stronger than yourself so you might need to use your second hand." The situation restarted itself and Sean showed how he blocked the attack with both his hands and moving the arm downwards. Even though T'sar as Vulcan was stronger than Sean it was still hard for the Vulcan to get away from his grip.

"Okay pair up and repeat these movements." Sean and T'sar just repeated the basic movement with T'sar attacking and Sean block one handed and moving the assailant arm down and showing the same situation, but then two handed. Gripping the arm with his two hands and pushing it down. "As you probably see there is more, but keeping the blade from your upper body is the most important thing. Eventually, we will move on to this." Sean motioned too T'Sar.

T'sar attacked. Sean quickly moved his left hand to the fist holding the knife moving the blade down. He quickly turned into her with his right hand also now on her wrist and his back moving to his right. Both hands where on her wrist now and O'Connell quickly got her on the ground and himself with two legs on top of her. With his two hands on her left wrist ready to pop out her arm of the socket or even break her arm. T'sar tapped off. Sean got up quickly and nodded to the vulcan.

"Now, like I said team up repeat the movements block one hand, block two handed. if you can get a grip on the arm do it. Now Ensign T'sar is left handed, so we showed it that way, but try to alternate hands."

As ever, Sivity was late. It wasn't really her fault that it took so long to ensure that all the correct charms were in place. She entered the gym unapologetically, standing as tall as she could; she was again grateful for the extra inches accorded to her by her heels. Looking around she immediately grasped the situation. The defence being taught was a basic one. That didn't make it any less effective. She watched. It was clear that some in the group were either very rusty or complete novices. That didn't bother her unduly. Fighting agreed with her. It was infinitely preferable to report compilation. Whilst she was better with a gun than at martial combat, she knew she excelled nonetheless; it was that and her marksmanship that had raised her scores sufficiently to graduate for the cadets.

Sivity smiled sweetly at those that met her gaze. She did not rush to pair up, but found some space to warm up and stretch. Warming up was hardly necessary as the humans liked a very balmy temperature as a matter of course. Consequently her stretching came easily. Enjoying dance and gymnastics, she was very flexible, fast and agile. She wasn't strong. She did, however, know how to turn an opponent's strength against them.

Moments later, she looked up from her stretch to see a smiling bearded man looking down at her.

"Hi, care to partner up? I should warn you though, I have done this before." He grinned confidently.

Sivity smiled and got to her feet. The man was also an ensign and from operations. He was big, standing a full foot taller than herself. She guessed her weighed more than twice what she did.

"Me too." She replied quietly.

"Well, if you're ready, I'll be the attacker." He became rather more serious, but his eyes never left hers.

Suddenly he lunged. The 'knife' was aimed squarely for her chest. Sivity merely stepped back and the strike came up short. He tried again. Again she stepped back, making no motion to defend herself other than that simple tactic. Becoming frustrated, he changed the angle of attack. He ran at her and stabbed down towards her head. Sivity darted in. She X blocked the strike, gripped the hand and rotated under the arm. Her motions caused the hand to 'stab' up into his own armpit. Sivity released the hold and smiled.

"Okay, I guess I kinda asked for that." The man replied unconcerned. "Want to see if you can cope with a full speed attack just as easily?"

Sivity responded with nothing more than a slight shrug and a smile.

The ran abruptly 'slashed' left and right. He stepped forward sideways on, minimising the target area and moved the 'blade' in a flurry of stabs, slashes and strikes. Sivity sidestepped and back-stepped until she suddenly saw an opening. At the end of a savage slash, she spun. She whipped her leg up in a spinning back kick that caught his knife hand. He spike heel tore the skin of his hand, but she kept the momentum going and used her other leg to deliver a knee strike to the groin. This one she pulled. He felt the touch, but there was no painful impact.

"Yow." He clutched his hand. "Point well made. I concede. You're better at this than I am. That begs the question - why are you here and more importantly - what's your name? Mine's Harper, Clinton Harper, Operations." he held out the non bloodied hand.

She shook it lightly. Her own hand was swallowed by his. "Sivity Dar-Barriun, Security." Was her simple, quiet response. Her actions though had spoken with greater volume and a number of others had ceased training to watch her and Clinton fight.

" Lieutenantn Commander O'Connell, Chief of Security." Sean said as he looked at the two ensigns. He wasn't quite please.

"The advanced class is held two hours later.Lieutenant T'sar please continue the drills. I have a few things to say to mister Harper and Miss Dar-barriun." Sean motioned the two to follow him to a corner of the gym and out of earshot from the other trainees.

"Mister harper, I am not your department head, but I can make your life really unpleasant. I want you to have your hand looked at asap."Sean said as he looked at harper and then turned to the andorian. "Miss Dar-barriun seems you made it out of the academy. Welcome to the arse end of space and welcome to my security department. " Sean smiled and held out his hand.

Sivity shook the man's hand with minimal fuss. She hoped that he did not remember her.

"You might or might not remember, but I used go be one of your instructors at the academy and as it seems not one of the nicer ones. I hope your a bit better at paper work." Sean looked at her, his face showing no emotions. " Now, count yourself lucky, because if you want to have a fast career your in the right place, the station is in quite a state. I am undermanned and overworked. We have recently ensigns doing the job of section leaders. You will be running the 3rd section, deck 400 to 700 gamma shift. this means getting up to speed on the paper work. You will need to enhance leadership skills and the fun of filling in the paper work. At the moment I need well versed combat officers, so no guard duty or cargo inspections for you. You will be running a section of 30 people."

"Yes, sir." She replied quietly and simply. She did her best to conceal her disappointment; not at the work detail, but at his recollection of her. If they gave her 30 people, she'd detail someone capable to do ALL the paperwork: that's what being in charge was about - delegating.

"As matters are so pressing, I shall make my way there immediately." She continued somewhat icily and turned excusing herself. If he really remembered her from the academy, he knew of her temper. She clutched a long, thin bone that hung from a charm bracelet on her left wrist and rolled it between finger and thumb to calm herself. The action woke the spirit within it and she felt less annoyed. That did not stop her turning on her high heels and heading off.
