Command Transfer

Alex stood uncomfortable in his own skin. The dress uniform of a Starfleet commanding officer was less than flattering and far less than comfortable. He pulled at his collar and took the opportunity to take a quick glance around the giant area. Banks of officers stood at attention as the words of Rear Admiral Wellington filled the room. Something about Tae and his contribution to the stability of the sector. It was all very touching and the Commodore would no doubt be smiling widely on the inside with the mention of his good work.

He picked out the faces of his senior staff, each looking more uncomfortable than the last until his eyes eventually fell on Reinhart. His first officer stood bolt upright looking as though he was made to permanently wear a dress uniform. He stifled a laugh as the officers were allowed to be seated and Reinhart finally relaxed a little.

As the Admiral finished reading the orders for the new crew and its Commanding Officer, the Commodore and the Commander were invited to stand. This was the important bit. He absolutely must not trip, fall or worse, stumble over his words. It was a simple process to follow. All he had to say was one thing.

Commodore Tae stepped forward first and turned to face Alex at attention. "Commander, I stand ready to be relieved."

Alex managed to hold in the wide smile he was desperate to reveal as he too snapped to attention. "I relieve you, Sir." He turned towards Admiral Wellington and saluted him. "Commander Alexander Gunning, reporting for duty."
