Station Security - Engineering Evacuation
Posted on Tue Dec 29th, 2015 @ 9:10am by Venin & Captain Liarra Von & Karx & Lieutenant JG Mena
Mission:
By Dawn's Early Light
Location: Alexander's [Deck 1869, Starbase 332]
Timeline: 1100hrs.
For the most part, the evacuation of the engineering section of the station was going smoothly. This area of the station was much less densely populated than the habitation decks and the promenade, but there was still the occasional shop or residence. Most of this section of the station was dedicated to storage of equipment and access to the station's systems from the main engineering offices. That didn't mean that Lieutenant JG Mena's job was easy. Her section of the station was still home to a rougher sort, the ones that couldn't afford the more luxurious trappings of the upper levels of the station. As much as the rich cling to their positions, the less fortunate tended to be even more possessive of what they had, especially when those possessing are Ferengi.
Mena had received the call from the security center about ten minutes prior, having been told that there were still lifesigns in an evacuated area. The Vulcan wasn't surprised to learn that those lifesigns could be found in Alexander's. The woman strolled in as if she owned the place, and started her search for the brothers that she was sure had to be the cause of the call.
Venin heard a noise at the door - which Karx had assured him was sealed - and froze. He knew that they wouldn't have long until they were found and told to move down to the muster point but they needed a good fifteen more minutes to finish stowing their 'stock' in their underfloor lockers.
Karx was half inside one of the lockers, dangling beneath the deck so only his lower torso and legs were visible. His legs froze at the same time, their owner having heard the same noise as Venin. They remained in a deathly still silence for a moment before Karx whispered, "What was that?"
Mena listened carefully as she looked around the empty bar. Her hearing may have been more sensitive than a humans, but it was nothing compared to that of the Ferengi, who could probably have heard each step she took, which moved her closer towards the back room. "This is station security. Is anyone still in this establishment. If so, identify yourselves."
Venin shushed his brother much too loudly. "Be quiet." He whispered.
The shush was counterproductive as the Vulcan's attention was immediately drawn to the activity in the back room. Mena drew her phaser, checking to confirm that it was set to stun. She started around the counter and towards the back. "I can hear you back there, whoever you are. Come out and identify yourselves now, or I will be forced to take you into custody." She tapped her commbadge. "Lt. Mena to security. Send a team to Alexander's for a search of the area."
Venin nudged his brother as if to tell him that he was needed front of house but he was more than a little reluctant. Eventually he took it upon himself. "Yes, how may I help you?"
Karx was hard at work trying to pack everything into the lockers in case their new friend decided to poke her nose in anywhere else. He could heard Mena telling Venin - in no uncertain terms - that they were due in their muster zone six hours previously and his brother feigning ignorance.
There was a short exchange of views, frank and often hurtfully blunt views before Venin reappeared in the doorway. "My dear brother," he said theatrically, "it appears that there is some kind of stationwide alert which we have been too busy to take notice of. The nice security officer needs us to accompany her to a safe area."
His eyes, unbeknown to Mena, bulged as he tried to put across to Karx that he hide the remainder of the 'stock' under anything he could find before they went with her. A few sheets of dirty tarpaulin would have to do.
