Personality & Traits

General Overview Trying to define Kam is no easy task for anyone. He is both good and evil, both selfish and generous, both callous and caring. Often those who meet Kam walk away unsure of just who he is.

Kam generally only cares about his own well-being; he will sacrifice everyone around him to escape, to survive, or to get what he wants or needs. He has no qualms with killing a person if he has to, though he will rarely do so unless he feels the situation requires it.

Often trying to understand what he considers necessary is just as difficult as understanding what motivates him to do what he does.

Kam is a restless man, unable to sit still for very long, or to even remain in one location. Constantly on the go, he believes that remaining still is wasting time.
Strengths & Weaknesses Kam has many weaknesses;
-Selfish. Kam only really cares about Kam at the end of the day. While he enjoys having companions, he rarely stays with any group for longer than a few years.
-Extremely secretive. Kam has many goals that he is working towards, all equally important in his eyes, but none that he is willing to share, even with his closest allies.
-Tunnel vision. When a desired goal or interest is in hand, Kam sometimes loses sight of everything around him. This is a dangerous weakness, and has at times put him in deadly situations, or, more likely, ended with him in a cell.
-Racist. While not racist against all races, he will often make fun of different species, and he is extremely intolerant of Cardassians. He has never met a Cardassian he liked, and he will attack them verbally and at times physically if he can.
-Slow to learn. He often struggles to learn new things, including how to read, which he only recently mastered with the help of one of the few people he considers to be a friend. He is somewhat embarrassed by his shortcomings, and will often be defensive about it when anyone mentions it.
-Heavy drinker. Kam often wallows in his own dark past, and this leads him to drink, often to excess.

He also has a number of strengths;
+Deft at masking his true nature. To many who meet Kam, they find him to, at first blush, be an odd, unintelligent, and often-times harmless sort of man. Often he is ignored or passed off as nothing more than an eccentric homeless-man. This belies Kam's true nature...
+Cunning. Kam is an extremely cunning and intelligent man. The Captain of The Last Hope, a ship that Kam spent several years on, once said that he wasn't "sure if he is the dumbest or smartest man I have ever met; either way I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of his phaser."

Skill-wise, Kam is an excellent shot with a fire-arm. During the Bajoran Occupation he worked with the Resistance, where he was first introduced to the usage of various weapons. He took to them quickly and easily. He also learned about improvised explosives, as well as how to pilot various ships and vehicles. He is also skilled at hand-to-hand combat, though is largely self-taught and struggles against those who are properly trained.

Kam is completely inept when it comes to talking his way out of situations; while he is a good liar, often once people realize that he is a liar he has a hard time keeping the facade going. He also tells so many lies that sometimes he gets specific details of them mixed up, which generally leads to him being caught in the lies.

Kam has a weakness when it comes to protecting children; he will forgo even the most precious of his plans to save the life of a child, and this has at times been used against him.
Ambitions Kam's driving ambition is to find the Cardassian that killed his mother and sister. Most of what he does in his life is directly due to this.

Beyond that, Kam has very little in the way of any ambitions. He has not designs for his life, nor does he have any dreams of a happy future. He has been known to say that the Cardassian's shattered any happy future that Vendenje Kamdram might have had when they decimated his world and his people. His entire life has been spent running and fighting, and he imagines that he will end up dead in some distant corner of the galaxy, largely forgotten and unknown, but hopefully happy and satisfied that Gul Mosel is dead next to him.
Hobbies & Interests Kam does not seem to have any hobbies or interests in a recreational sense. He enjoys knife games, and weapons, as well as womanizing and drinking, but not much else.
Languages Bajoran, Federation Standard, Cardassian, Klingon, Romulan, he understands Breen, Orion

Personal History 48 years ago Vendenje Kamdram came into the world, screaming at the top of his lungs.

His father, a miner at Gallitep Labor Camp, called him a curse. The child was often rebellous, leading to confrontations with the Cardassian minders stationed in and around the small village that Kam's family lived in. Kam's mother called him her savior, though he often struggled to understand what that meant.

When Kam was five his sister Alei was born. At the age of ten Kam began working at Gallitep alongside his father. Kam had a poor opinion of his father, and a poor opinion of the Bajorans who worked without complaint. At the age of eleven he began working with the Bajoran resistance.

The Bajoran Resistance taught Kam much about survival, but he also learned many hard lessons about loss, and about pain. In 2364, during a raid on a Cardassian supply train, most of the members of Kam's cell were cut down and killed. Kam himself was captured, and, after learning where he had come from, taken home. He watched as the Gul in charge, a Cardassian named Mosel, killed both his mother and sister. His father, a coward, had fled before he could also be killed.

Mosel decided that Kam would not be killed, and brokered a contract with an Orion named Gerun Daevro. Kam was sold into slavery, and spent the next eight years of his life as the personal property of the man.

During this time Kam had his first run-in with a woman named Rinda Zing, and she would later give birth to a son that she claimed was Kam's bastard. She named the son Vennek, after a grandfather of Kam's.

Kam was a terrible slave, and was often beaten or whipped into submission. Eventually he grew tired of this life, and in 2372 devised an escape plan. Killing several of Daevro's guards, he stole a ship and fled, only to have Daevro's remaining men chase him.

His ship, badly damaged, was forced down on the desert world Dozaria, where during a confrontation he was badly wounded and left for dead.

Two years later he resurfaced, this time in the Demilitarized Zone, on a Maquis colony world known as New Graham. Working with the Maquis, he often found himself in direct conflict with the Cardassians he hated and despised so much. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to find Mosel during those years.

In 2376, after a woman he cared deeply about was killed during a Cardassian raid, Kam decided to move on. Working as a gun-runner, he was caught during an illegal deal and shot and killed a Federation Marshal. Cornered and out-gunned he surrendered, and was turned over to the Jaros II "Stockade," where he remained for 3 years before escaping.

In 2379 he joined an ex-Starfleet Captain named Andrew Sage on-board a vessel known as The Last Hope. The ship claimed to be a transport vessel, but was often used for illegal smuggling and trade. After murdering two more Federation Citizens, Kam once again found himself in a prison, on the Penal Ship The Ophidian.

While he only spent a year there, he was later known to have remarked that it was one of his more difficult escapes, and the captain of that vessel, Chief Marshal Marcus Dael, has never forgotten about him and is known to be actively searching for him.

He rejoined the Hope for two more years before deciding to move on. During his time back on the Hope Sage was able to procure a pardon for his entire crew in an unrelated situation. This had the unintended side-effect of pardoning Kam of all his crimes.

In mid-2386 the Hope was badly damaged and Sage began to spend less time in space. The ship was drydocked and Sage began to employ a fleet of ships to maintain his ever growing business. Kam began to grow restless and bored, and his attention was drawn to unfinished business. Sage and Kam would have a famous falling out, one that Lieutenant Aldo Tiranor, adjutant to Admiral Beckett, would claim "could be heard across Paris." Kam retrieved his ship from the hangar it was stored in and left.

In late 2386 Kam took his Maquis Raider, named the Alei, after his deceased sister, and began working with the Orion Syndicate as a gun-runner. He used the various jobs that he took to try and find more clues about Mosel's whereabouts. Most were a dead-end, but the most recent pointed him in the direction of Starbase 332...
