Personal History

Family

Corella never enjoyed a happy relationship with his family. His Mother and Father owned their own hydroponic farm on New Valencia and seemed perfectly content with their lot in life. Micheletto felt differently from a young age. He has developed a close bond with his uncle, one Cesare Barreta who is currently Starfleet’s attaché to the Federation Ministry of the Interior, advising on security matters.

Personal History

Born on New Valencia to Rafael and Mariana Corella, the first years of Micheletto’s life were happy, if not exciting. He learned the skills needed to be a farmer and was helping with harvests and crop rotations by age nine. By age ten he had decided that he had no interest in pursuing the life of a farmer.

He insisted that he be allowed to take extra classes at school which kept him largely away from the farm and his parents until he was old enough to register for an off-world educational institute.

Education

From New Valencia, Micheletto travelled to a boarding school in Atlanta, Georgia where he began to voraciously study Federation history with a view to signing up for Starfleet. By age 18, Corella’s prodigious hard work had brought him to the brink of an automatic acceptance to the academy but he was tempted away by an offer of a full scholarship to the University of Alpha Centauri.

It was on Alpha Centauri that things changed for Micheletto. His studies in Federation History proceeded at pace while he built up other projects on the side. His knowledge of farming allowed him to identify and cultivate a local herb which held remarkable hallucinatory properties. Its use swept through the university and the regional police force of Federation Marshals were eventually brought in to identify the source of the drug and stem it.

Corella was too young and brash to realise the foolishness of what he was doing and found himself quickly apprehended by the authorities, expelled from university and put on trial for narcotics dealing. He counted himself lucky that he was only on the wrong side of the law for dealing, rather than trafficking since he had been selling onto a third party who had been selling samples of the drug to the many syndicates operating illicitly in the Galactic Core.

Found guilty and sentenced to two years incarceration in a minimum security institution on Earth.

The Vinarian Syndicate

Upon his release from prison, Corella has intended to return to his studies, the gentle imprisonment of the Federation having rehabilitated him. The university at Alpha Centauri had effectively crippled his chances of returning to academic life by burning him with other institutions right across the Galactic Core.

Feeling that his only way to make a clean break was to leave, Micheletto chose to move to the small colony planet of Celli V on the border of Federation space in Galactic South. For a time, this put him out of the way of his uncle's displeasure. The man had visited him fortnightly during his time in jail to scold him for his stupidity and embed in him the fact that he owed him for getting him a lenient sentence.

Micheletto was in no doubt that he owed Cesare for that but knew that his uncle would hold it over his head for the rest of his life, something he could not abide.

Moving to Celli V did the trick nicely. He was out of the way and living a quiet life working as a security guard at a small hypermarket. He earned enough to live and had managed to stash a small account in a non-Federation registered account which gave him a little to live off. By 2374, the Vinarian Syndicate, the criminal group who had received some of his product landed in the colony and began clearing out the colonists, paying them off to move to other nearby systems.

After this was completed, they moved in and paid Micheletto to resume production of the herbal product he had created at university, using the vacated space to build fields and hydroponic bays. For four years, Corella and the Vinarian Syndicate made a significant amount of money from the drug and their position on the very edge of the Federation meant that it didn't have to be brought in through any border patrols.

Stranded

Eventually the drug grabbed the headlines, the attention of the Federation Marshals and- perhaps most importantly- the interest of the Brjota Syndicate. Their plan to attack the colony, destroy the supply lines leaving Celli V was put into action in 2378. The plan originally included a provision to take 'The Herbalist', as Micheletto had come to be known, into custody.

This was not the intention of the local Brjota Overlord, the petty-minded Romulan Hirriv, whose only intention was to wipe out those who had been 'dealing on his patch' for years. After brutally murdering the Vinarian Syndicate crew on the ground, he set up shielded transport and communications inhibitors around the camp and left Micheletto there to die.

The Romagna Clan

After almost a year, stranded on the planet and living off the scraps of food and forgetting the length of the days using what remained of his 'herbal remedy', Micheletto was on the brink of ending his own life, so sure was he that he was done for. He was so far off the usual trade routes that the chances of anyone passing by the colony.

The Vinarians would have assumed him dead and would not risk being found in orbit of a massacre like that one. He was on his own until a small party of Romagna Clan mercenaries landed on the planet. They gave no reason for having picked Celli V to land, leading Micheletto to infer that his uncle had some hand in it, but he accepted the help enthusiastically.

Upon his liberation, he joined the Clan and graduated their "academy" in 2380, showing excellence in close-quarters combat and ranged weaponry which he claimed came about as a result of him being stranded on Celli V. He never elaborated any more on his time there.

Assassinations

It took another four years before he heard from his uncle again who was by this time rapidly accelerating through the ranks of the Federation Diplomatic Corps in an attempt to become special security advisor to the Federation President. He held Micheletto's previous imprisonment over his head- a fact he had kept from his new mercenary employers- and identified a number of targets for Micheletto to eliminate in order to speed his advance to the ear of the President.

A series of inexplicable illnesses, accidents and seemingly accidental fires befell these victims whenever Micheletto was posted close to them and he began to slowly work through the list, completing his uncle's tasks in 2385. It was around this time that the Romagna, previously a comparatively small group, won a lucrative contract from the Federation to assist Marshals in the apprehension and elimination of targets in rico cases and other group warrants. Closed communiques cited the work of Micheletto Corella in convincing the Federation to engage the Romagna in employment.

The hand of Cesare Barreto was in play again.

Promotion to Condottiere

In 2386, and as a result of bringing in the contract (although his superiors were unaware of his other 'wet work'), Micheletto was made a Condottiere of the Romagna Clan and put in charge of small mercenary raids and attacks. He developed a unique, unsettling command style and managed to lead his people by keeping them ill-at-ease.

The Murders of Vitelli & da Fermo

Cesare Barreto already stood as the Security advisor to the Federation President but one huge problem still stood in his way of securing his office. Two Federation Marshals by the names of Vitellozzo Vitelli and Oliveretto da Fermo had made connections between Barreto and the Romagna and were asking some difficult- if off the record- questions of the higher-ups in the Romagna Clan and Barreto decided to cash in a final favour from his nephew.

Next on their list of interviews, Micheletto was quickly outed as the nephew of the Federation President's Security Advisor and it was clear that all the pieces were falling into place. There was no way out for Micheletto. His uncle expected them dead and they had connected the dots. He shot da Fermo and, following a struggle, strangled Vitelli to death with a length of alloy wire.

Quite how Corella concealed the murders is unclear, but he managed to keep it quiet.

Governor of Piombino

Deciding that his nephew would be best served out of the firing line and out of suspicion, Cesare installed Micheletto as the Governor of a backwater Federation Colony known as Piombino. He took on an assumed name and did his best to keep a low profile with his last two 'assassinations' weighing heavily on his conscience.

In fact he oversaw a period of growth for the tiny colony after bringing in a number of by-laws that brought Tramp Freighters to Piombino, allowing Micheletto to keep an eye on the goings-on in Galactic South without ever having to leave his office. That was until one afternoon in early 2391 when Hirriv finally tracked down the 'ghost' he had been hunting for thirteen years and sent an assassination to remove "The Herbalist" once and for all.
