| Personal History | Talia and Sarae Varen were born in the Raal Province. Their mother was a teacher at the Oceanic Institute and their father a Physician on leave from Starfleet. Twins run in the Varen line, and Talia the firstborn was named for her Father's Twin Talia a Tactical officer aboard the USS Colt who was killed in the line of duty just before the twins were born. He secluded himself away from his wife and his unborn children, until the Priestess forced her way in with the baby he christened Talia. It was only then that he returned to a life of near solitude-broken only by his family visiting. Young Talia tried to emulate her aunt in every way she could-including dying a strip of her hair bright colors as her aunt had been known to do. Her only disappointment was that her skills did not lie in the tactical areas, but in the sciences. The twins shared a very strong bond- neither girl speaking verbally to each other. They spoke only telepathically until their teachers impressed on them that that would not be permitted in the form of a telepathic inhibitor and it was learned that they both DID know how to talk. They grew, schooled as vulcan children were...with extra classes for their telepathy-specifically in controlling it. Being mostly Betazoid on Vulcan was difficult for the girls who clung to each other like life rafts until Talia applied for Starfleet Academy and her sister did not. While Talia got high honors in the sciences and in her medical classes, she barely scraped by in those classes that required a more engineering acumen. | |
