| Physical Description | Jon has seen many years on the Planet Vulcan which explains a dark tan appearance. His hair is short to average length and showing his age with tinges of Grey on the sides. A good workout schedule and Handball keeps him trim and fit. Jon has stamina for the demands of his job and a Marine. He bears several wounds but no visible scars or disfigurement. He maintains a Military bearing that is noticed when he enters a conference room or a drop zone. His motions are purposeful and he walks with confidence. He carries with him a constant smile which displays a perfect set of Teeth. Despite his position in command most find him easy to approach. Jon will be found in the Marine uniform of the day, Off duty you catch him in Jeans and a T-shirt. In the evenings on the promenade he’s wearing slacks and a sport coat. |

| General Overview | Jon is a skillful negotiator and friendly person. His position requires direct control of his subordinates. He juggles this creatively by leading by example. His Marines trust him in all matters. Jon knows his Marines and often communicates with them on a first name basis. He has high personal standards. His conduct is mature and friendly. Being one of the few Marines senior officers that bears no animosity towards his fellow Star Fleet Officers. Jon knows his position, But he will not suffer a fool. He is a diplomat and very charming. | Personal History | Jon was born in a small town in Central Missouri, Bolivar. His parents were the only Doctors in the rural County of farmers and transients. They did well and were highly respected for their work in the community. Jonathan being the only child of the union received all the attention and encouragement a child needed. At an early age he was a common site at his Mother and Fathers practice helping out. He was a polite young man and respectful of others. As his school years began he was a diligent student. Jonathan was liked by his peers and teachers alike. At a young age he was involved in sports and a good athlete. In Forth grade he fell in love, With Chemistry... His Mother said it was actually Dianne Foster who sat next to him but only Jon knew for sure. He was a champion for the underdog. Never a bully and continued to excel in his studies through High School. The faculty had high hopes of his future. And he left home to the University of Missouri in Rolla Missouri. He was having trouble nailing down a Major until his Second year, History with a Minor in Political Science. In 2365 he joined the SF Marine Corps Reserve Officer program. During his Senior break he attended Marine Basic training at New Paris Island and signed his contract. He graduated with honors in 2367, Third in his class. As the Fleet Marine force was building at a tremendous pace he completed Basic Platoon Officers training and Planetary defense school. His first assignment was Eventful and saw action on several outposts in the turbulent Neutral Zone. His performance reports showed his willingness to lead and teach his Marines to survive. His skills in combat during the Dominion wars earned him several promotions and after Being promoted to Major was assigned to a diplomatic assignment to Jardus Six. A small planet in big trouble. Things got off to a rocky start but his Marines and his plan to pacify Three waring factions worked well. A short assignment to Fleet Marine Plans and Program Division was a great career move for Jon and he made some career boosting friends while posted there. Recognized for his diplomatic skills he returned to Earth and attended the Staff war College in Moscow. He also returned to school and received an additional degree in Interstellar Economics. He Married, and divorced after One year. A fateful relationship that should have never occurred. Major Gifford was assigned to Fifth Marines headquarters as a Battalion training officer and completed Marine Flight training with 1000 hrs in a Razor Interceptor air craft. Jon kept very busy with his duties and events surrounding his command. He has been home to visit his parents several times and remains close to them. Soon he should receive a new set of Fleet orders. He has been placed on the selection board for Lieutenant Colonel but it will depend on his next assignment. Jon has been considered one of the newer breed of Marine Officers. |
