The Cardassian delegation have arrived at Starbase 332 in preparation for their conference with Mjr Gen Rohan. There's gossip flying around that Starfleet are looking to station more troops inside the demilitarised zone to combat a new wave of Maquis insurgency in the region.

Supposedly they've started to take umbridge with Federation, Cardassian and Bajoran movements in the territory. Some people are never happy. I have our new Security Chief Lieutenant Tieran making sure that no known Maquis operatives or associates are aboard the station during the conference but unfortunately, out here in the sticks, you can't always guarantee that nothing bad will happen.

It remains to be seen the outcome of the negotiations but those of my rank and below are not privvy to the inside-dealings of the Federation in the region so I may well not find out until the decision is printed by the FNS. Typical, really.

In the meantime I am left to the riveting task of working out crew assignments for the Jackal. My consideration is to continue giving Lieutenant Commander Von the experience of commanding the vessel. Dietrich has shown an incredible ability as Commander of the Air Group and is also doing a sterling job whipping the crew into shape. With the best will in the world, the previous regime has left them a little lax.

Therefore, I will likely be looking to Liarra for the Jackal's next patrol mission into Ritorian-held space. She'll have a good team behind her- I just hope she can cope.
