A Day in the Life
Location: SB332 - Shuttle Bays & Quarters
ON:
Scott stepped up to the security officer and leaned into the ocular scanner.
"Welcome to Starbase 332, Lt. Russell," the security officer said, once Scott's ID came up on the ensign's screen. "This will tell you how to get anywhere on the base," he said, handing Scott a small PADD with a "you are here" map on it. "And you have been assigned to quarters on Deck 28 number 43."
"Thank you," Scott said, taking the small tablet from the ensign. "Can you tell me where the Emergency Medical Shuttle is housed?" he asked.
The ensign typed some information into his small terminal and said, "Deck 122. Shuttle bay 18, slip 10."
"Thank you," Scott said and moved through the ID gate to the corridor. Looking at his map he headed for the nearest turbolift and a few minutes later he stepped out onto Deck 122 and headed down the corridor.
Once inside the shuttle bay he looked around at the myriad of shuttles and runabouts tethered in the huge bay. Slip 10 was the only one with modified Class 2 shuttle. To further signify its use, it had the blue EFTS emblem on the sides.
Scott walked over to the craft and set his duffel bag down. Placing his hand on the shuttle's hull he moved around her, almost caressing her, as he examined her undercarriage, Nacelles and nose.
"Can I help you, sir?" a voice behind him brought Scott out of his reverie.
"I'd like to see inside," Scott said, without looking back at where the voice came from.
"I'm afraid only authorized crew are allowed inside this craft," the young lady behind Scott said.
Scott turned around and flashed an innocent boyish smile and said, "I'm her new pilot. I think that makes me authorized. Lt. Scott Russell."
The flight control ensign couldn't help but be captivated by Scott's boyish charm and her cheeks blushed. "I'll still have to check, sir," she said, almost shyly.
""Go ahead," Scott said. "I'm not going anywhere. This lady and I need to get to know each other."
The ensign blushed again and hurried off. Meanwhile Scott continued his walk around. A few minutes later the ensign returned with a fellow deck officer...another female...and put her code into the shuttle door while her friend stood off to the side, trying not to look obvious about scoping out the new pilot.
The shuttle door opened and the steps locked into place. Scott walked over to the door and peered in from the deck. "Thank you, ensign..." he said.
"Willows. Ensign Willows," the ensign replied, finishing his sentence. "Lisa," she added and blushed again, realizing she was being too familiar.
Scott chuckled softly and smirked. "Thank you, Lisa," he said as he climbed the steps and entered the shuttle. First he inspected the aft section, which was set up with a biobed and basic medical instruments....enough to keep someone alive long enough to get them within transporter range. The upgrades from the EMTs he had flown before were impressive.
He then moved to the cockpit and slipped into the pilot's seat. His left hand, gently, moved along the control panel while his right rested, almost sensually, around the throttle. The seat was comfortable. The throttle fit his hand perfectly. All of the controls were in easy reach. "A match made by the gods," he said, softly. With a smile he stood and left the shuttle, pressing the control on the outside of the door. He saw the ensign skulking behind one of the runabouts and he smiled, grabbed his duffel and waved to her and her friend as he strolled out of the shuttle bay.
Ten minutes later he had located his quarters, stepped in and tossed his duffel bag on the small sofa and looked around. "Home sweet home," he said.
