Shore Leave 2

Posted on Tue Jul 25th, 2017 @ 1:10am by Lieutenant Commander Tyler Vorran & Lieutenant JG Liam Harrison

Mission: Indomitable Will
Location: Runabout Amazon
Timeline: prior to around the block. 09:00hrs

Vorran and Liam were seated in the cockpit of the runabout preparing to depart Archa IV. A distinct hum could be heard as the engines and systems came to life. "Pre-launch is completed, we're ready to head back home." Vorran said as he plotted their return course.

Liam turned in his seat and raised an eyebrow grinning.

"What?" Tyler asked.

"You called the Starbase home," Liam replied.

"Home is wherever we are together," replied Tyler. Liam reached over and squeezed Tyler's hand.

Tyler, noticing the engines had warmed up, started the launch sequence. "Here we go. Computer, Music." As the runabout headed for the sky loud metal music blasted in the cockpit.

"What is it with you and classic Earth music?" Liam yelled trying to be heard over the music.

"It makes flying more fun, would you rather Klingon Opera?" Tyler replied as the clouds of Archa IV were replaced by stars in the viewport.

Liam cocked his head to the side and looked at Tyler with a puzzled face. "Well, no...I guess not," he said with a sigh. He looked out of the runabout's window to watch view as Tyler expertly navigated back to their home. Instead of feeling sad about leaving their shore leave, the music somehow energized Liam. He looked at Tyler once more and smiled.

"Now that we are clear of the planet I can have some fun." Tyler said as he did a barrel roll with the runabout.

Liam grasped the console and closed his eyes. When the shuttle returned to it's normal position, Liam exhaled deeply. "Do you have to make me space sick every time we're in a shuttle?" Liam asked, still firmly grasping the console in preparation for another one of Tyler's "maneuvers".

"Sorry, I usually don't get to fly much except the simulators these days." Tyler replied "I have a training cruise with my cadets coming up as well and they will be doing the flying unless things go really badly."

"Mmmmm," Liam huffed as he looked out into space. He rolled his eyes and looked at Tyler. "Fine, go on..." he told Vorran with a small smile. He didn't take his hands off the console, but he figured he'd let Tyler have his fun. After all, it wasn't often they'd get a chance to leave the Starbase.

"It takes the fun out of it when you are white knuckled clawing at the console. Starfleet must have installed some substandard inertial dampeners in this thing for you to feel it. " Tyler replied

"Well, it's either I do this or I vomit. Your choice," Liam told Tyler with a small smirk. "The inertial dampeners are fine, but I can still tell. Maybe it's a placebo thing, I don't know."

"I'll take it easy, don't want you to loose your breakfast. I'm sure we can find something else to pass the time until we get to the station." Vorran said suggestively.

Liam turned to Tyler and smirked. "I'm sure we can," he told Tyler. "What did you have in mind?"

Tyler activated the autopilot on the runabout and turned his seat toward Liam. "This." Tyler planted his lips on Liam's

Liam allowed Tyler to enjoy only a few seconds before turning off autopilot and sending Tyler back facing front. "Now now, Tyler. We'll have plenty of time for that when we get back to the station," he told the Bajoran. "Besides, I'm not really in the mood right now. There is a lot of stuff on my mind. Seeing the shuttle again has reminded me of some stuff we're going to go back to."

Tyler took the controls again now that the autopilot had been deactivated. "If anyone asked I would have just said we were set upon by Nausicaans and had to fight them off hand to hand."

"I guess," Liam told Tyler with a shrug. "Just not really in the mood, you understand, right?" Liam asked as he stood up and walked to the back of the shuttle to look at a random system to kill time. A wave of responsibility, for lack of a better word, came across Liam. He wasn't a Commander like Tyler, but he still had his own duties to get back to. If he was honest with himself, he enjoyed the work he did - the problem was trying to balance everything he enjoyed while still staying sane.

"After I take my students out for a training cruise we should plan to spend some time together. Maybe reinstitute date night?" Tyler suggested. It had been a while since they had their usual date night, certainly not since they transferred to Starbase 332.

"Date night," Liam said as he looked back at Tyler with a smile. "That sounds like a great idea," he told Tyler as he pulled out his tool kit and began to fidget with the shuttle's systems.

Tyler smiled thinking about places to go out on their next date night. Then noticing the toolkit he raised an eyebrow. "What's that for? I haven't crashed this runabout."

"Not yet, at least," Liam murmured under his breath. "It's just some updates that will make the shuttle more efficient, nothing to worry about," Liam said turning to Tyler with a wide smile.

"I heard that. Try not to set off the fire suppression system this time." Tyler replied with a chuckle.

"Oh, I'll try," Liam said with a small smirk as he went to work on the runabout's systems. It wasn't as bad as Tyler's shuttle, but there was always room for improvement.
