“I certainly hope this is worth it, I haven't even got to the marine area yet.” Marine Instructor and XO Jason 'Blackwidow' Tanner gulped down the third coffee in ten minutes.

“How much sleep...”

“Just get to the point.” Jason snapped, she'd been travelling for seven days to get to 332, all she wanted to do was get to her quarters and collapse.

“Boy are you cranky today.” Wytara Stated. “We've just received notification that a ship, the USS Cardiff has been quarantined, after some R&R on a colony called Killeeka, Crew, approximately seventy have according to Starbase 7, strange symptoms that aren't being picked up by the tricorders, and they need assistance. 7 thinks it's a historical event. Canioba?”

“After reviewing the symptoms, I'm guessing plague. Which plague 7 doesn't know yet.”

“How many plagues are there?” Cascade asked.

“Flea bites can give you bubonic plague or septicaemic plague. You can also get both from contact with contaminated fluid or tissue. If you're infected and cough you can infect others this is pneumonic plague, but this requires close contact with the infected person. Cardiff report via 7 that
a lot of medical staff are affected. I'd guess that someone picked up bubonic or septicaemic plague on Killeeka, and it turned to pneumonic plague and people aren't following infectious diseases protocol because they don't know what they're dealing with, and I checked the medical computers and all types of plague merely comes up with historical data not how to treat it.7 is contacting all ships who have taken leave on Killeeka. If anyone has any drug ideas 7 wants them, the drugs that used to used are no longer available because they are missing components and what they've suggested aren't working.”

“That's number two.” Winter stated. “I came from the Bonnells Bay, they had eight cases of extreme organ damage and tricorders weren't picking up the cause. Taking blood from the eight and looking through a microscope, we established it was Schistosomiasis and like the plague, we are no longer able to produce the drugs that used to fight the worms, leaving the organ damage. We tested the rest of the crew and ended up with one hundred and seventy two cases, Scientists are trying to come up with replacements for the missing components, but so far nothing is working, that means a total of one eighty dead, we did however find that only Humans were effected.”

“Guess you get to decide what you say before your lecture, since it's now open and you have a full house. They've moved you to the largest lecture room.” Wytara answered.

“Great.”

“So what do you need?” Cascade asked, having been quiet till now.

“Blood samples, on microscope slides, it's easy to identify Schistosomiasis, you just put the slide under the microscope and if you see wiggling worms, you've got a positive call, we then inject some dye and if the colour changes, you've got a double positive, and without replacements to what is missing from the drugs we know work, you've got a corpse. Transplanting new organs don't work within hours the new organ is infected. Medical, Command and Science need to be notified.”

“They moved all of the infected?” Canioba asked.

“Starbase 17.” Winter answered. “So I’m up first, without a drug that works we're talking palliative care or euthanasia.”

“How infectious is this thing?” Cascade asked.

“You have one family member infected and the rest are going to be infected. Skin to skin contact, or sharing a shower will pass it on.” Canioba answered.

“What are you going to say?” Wytara asked

“I don't know, but I've got four hours to work that out. I'll leave you lot to pass our guess to 7 and 17, plagues going to be as fatal as Schistosomiasis if they don't find a medical alternative.”

OOC - There are two more parts and plently of room for people to jump in on part two and three, since the hike hasn't started I decided to post.
