Lonely Road - UFP Marine Undercover Vessel
Shuttle Bay 6
Deck 122
“We got company.”
“It's Barlow.”
“And she's carrying.”
“Looks like we're up for change.”
Flame didn't move from where she was lounging in her sleeper pod, and waited for Wytara to be shown onboard. Even though they were the only ship in this shuttlebay, and all of their defensive offensive attributes were in play, she liked to keep everything within the Lonely Road, where further attributes secured what happened, what was said, looked at or discussed.
Following the large bald guy's hand direction she moved up the coridoor towards the stairs to the next of five levels, then up again to the third level, following more hand signals, she stepped off the stairs and across and around to under the stairs where she found Flame. Grabbing a chair from the nearby table lounge area, disengaging the magnetic hold, she moved the chair to face the sleeper pod which was labelled with Flame's name.
“Let me guess you want to BDOP my ship.”
“You've been around Blackwidow too long, it's a UFP Marine Undercover Vessel.”
“Linked to Blackwidow, which is why we get to go and do things Starfleet and the UFP Marine Corps don't get to do. We've already been advised you'd be arriving and our vessel will be armoured with some fancy non Starfleet or Marine Corp gear. So exactly what is it and start from the beginning. Blackwidow was supposed to explain but she's nurse maiding.”
“How far do you want me to go back? You are familiar with the BDOP yes?”
“I know we transport cargo and people for the BDOP, but that's about as familiar as I am.”
Wytara nodded. “BDOP stands for Borg Defensive Offensive Project. Way back, a very wealthy entrepreneur lost his entire family of one hundred and fourty nine people. He also lost three thousand five hundred and fourty one employees, and nine thousand six hundred and thirty two of their families, and eleven thousand eight hundred and fifty associated employees. All assimilated by the Borg. He didn't believe that UFOP Starfleet or the Marine Corps were doing enough or employing tactics used in the past to fight the Borg. So he got a group of equally wealthy entrepreneurs, who had also lost family, employees and friends, and created the BDOP. At first Starfleet and the UFP Marine Corps were against the BDOP, however once they started coming up with various equipment and other items, thinking outside the box, the UFOP secretly assigned a team to work with the BDOP. Like Section 31, everyone knows the UFOP associates with the BDOP, and have ships which are using their designs and creations, but the UFOP deny the association. In the beginning the marine corps were ordered to seek out the BDOP cells and stop them operating, however they came up with a problem, the BDOP were associating with species that weren't members of the UFOP and had technology which Starfleet and the marine corps wanted.” Wytara swung her feet up onto the edge of the pod before continuing.
“A Borg fleet attempted to attack Kempsey Station, an old Jupiter Station that had already been assimilated and decommissioned which the UFOP donated to the BDOP which they modified with their own equipment. UFOP, Starfleet and the Marine Corps, along with a lot of non associated UFOP species paid special attention when the Borg failed, and lost a collection of their ships and one cube. It was then that the UFOP started nominating ships to be equipped with BDOP equipment, and assigned small groups of BDOP people to UFP Marine Battalions. I'm supposed to pass on UFP instructions to the station command, telling them that 332, their airwing, and the vessels attached here are to be modified with BDOP equipment, weapons and other items. I'm also supposed to pass on the news that the 14th Battalion have been chosen to have a BDOP team assigned to it. Blackwidow isn't a problem, the rest is.”
“You haven't had those conversations I take it.” It wasn't a question.
“No. I'm waiting for Blackwidow to return, then I'll ask for assistance.” Wytara pulled out a square object from her satchel and handed it across to Flame.
“And this is?”
“Your new hull and this one.” Out came another diamond shaped multi layered angulated section. “Forms your new internal shielding.” Picking up the square outer hull section. “These go over the current hulls of starships, starbases and walls of colonies. They are made up of twenty seven layers and are equipped with the final defence. They will stop anyone from beaming on or off or out of vessels unless authorisation is granted. It stops whatever is equipped with these from being scanned, and makes them invisible. Where most ships and stations use frequencies for their shields, these hull squares are equipped with modulating frequencies which make it harder for those races such as the Kazon to align their weapons and armoured shuttles to our frequencies. They are built with dampener blockers, which means species like the Night Beings can't use their offensive systems to drain their targets systems. Built with warp flares which are only one defensive capability, monotanium armor plating. This plating can scatter a targeting beam, making it virtually impossible to fire upon the ship, refractive shielding systems. Updated, and modified by BDOP render larger vessels and starbases invisible to sensors. The BDOP hull squares are equipped with a gel like substance known as Fluid Moulding Gelatin or FMG which when hit with a weapon burst, they turn into a fluid mass, which encompasses all squares and increases the shield capacity three hundred fold. See the lumps on the top?”
“They look like insects.”
“That's exactly what they are, the cockroach in the middle controls each square, around it are bees which modulate the frequencies, in each corner are spider's equipped with nanites, which when registering other nanites release their own which attack the others. See the lumps between each corner spider, they are hunters, another insects equipped with nanites modified with an infectious disease, if Borg Drones are identified, they are released, and target the drones, injecting the ID into the drone, we've found that this combination isn't able to be fought by the Borg nanites, they attack the organic organs inside the Drones, destroying them. On the internal plates, you have the FMG which increases the strength of the internal shielding, they are fitted with ants, which are filled with toxicity agents that destroy organic organs, with others filled with an acid to destroy an non BDOP Non-Atmo Isolation Suit. Which you'll be issued with along with a collection of non organic animals, which are created specially to identify non crew, who will be fitted with a BDOP designator. Blackwidow's marines will be fitted with the BDOP designator because they'll be using the Lonely Road for transport to their missions.”
“And the airwing?”
“They want their craft fitted with modified hull squares and internal plates with FMG. But as I mentioned I haven't spoken to the airwing commander. So until that happens the Lonely Road is first. The base itself will get, if command approves, the hull upgrade, the internal shielding, and everyone on the station will need to get the BDOP designators.” Wytara explained.
“But you haven't spoken to Command or Operations yet.”
“No,” Wytara answered. “So when can I start on the Lonely Road?”
“As long as we don't have to move, you're free to start whenever you have the people. I assume you'll be getting people in.” Flame answered. “We're hot.”
Wytara pulled out a larger than normal PADD. “And I have the plans for the Lonely Road. We'll be switching out some of your weaponry and replacing it, but we'll set up mobile drones to insure your status while we work. The BDOP team will be arriving in twenty four hours, assigned to the 14th Battalion.”
“The ancient Chinese warrior Sun Tzu taught his men to "know your enemy" before going into battle. For if "you know your enemy and know yourself," he wrote, "you need not fear the result of a hundred battles." But, Sun Tzu warned, "If you know yourself but not the
enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat." Flame quoted an ancient warrior, swinging out of the pod. “Just let me know when you'll be starting.”
Wytara tipped out the satchel revealing a hypo and a collection of vials. “Line them up and we'll start the process.”
“Define switching out some of the weaponry and replacing it?” Flame asked as she offered up her arm.
“You'll be fitted with a subnucleonic beam to perform rapid scans of encroaching vessels. These have a destructive effect, and can severely disable another ship, disrupting its navigational sensors and propulsion. We're replacing your tractor beam technology. You're also getting interferometric pulse technology which cause a phaser sweep to be deflected back on to the vessel firing their phasers. The BDOP have modified the Series-5 long range tactical armor units, which will be slotted into your missile racks, along with self replicating mines. You're also getting access to a subspace communications network, over 100,000 years old.”
“Hirogen.” Flame stated. “We already use the network using Blackwidow's codes.” Flame rubbed her arm, and it stung like crazy. “A little warning would have been nice. And there are advantages to being associated with the Blackwidow. Are you going to disagree?”
“No, since it was Blackwidow that talked the Hirogen into co-operating with the BDOP.” Wytara answered. “We'll also be swapping out your cryostasis pods, with Briori pods, there stasis chambers had the occupant upright, BDOP with Briori descendants have created an updated version of their upright...”
“Hold on, didn't they kidnap people from Earth and take them as slaves?”
“Yep, and the slaves revolted, took their technology, weapons and the planet itself, but some of the Briori managed to escape and settled on another planet in the Delta Quadrant, they have taken in numerous refugees and so far remained assimilation free, the remaining Briori have used their technology to become sellers of equipment, weapons and members of the blackmarket. The planet they settled on, has a wealth of minerals that Starfleet want. We've found that their cryostasis technology is far better than what Starfleet and many other species are using. We collected a accumulation of Borg Drones, Borg equipment and Borg ships from their new planet. As I was saying the BDOP with the Briori descendants assistance have created a lay down pod, which can be used as an individual escape pod should it be necessary. These sleeper pods will be turned into removable cryostasis sleeping pods, which are fitted into the escape pod system. Then we will.....”
“Enough!” Flame raised both hands. “Just remember that if we're called out, we go. So start on the outside first. I'm not explaining to Blackwidow why we're not hot to trot.”
“Got it. I'll start on your weapon's while the team arrives.”
“So much for starting on the outside.” Flame watched her go.
OOC: I've taken some information from the Star Trek Official Fact Files, and the Star Trek Magazine issued in Canada, and the Star Trek Encyclopedia. The BDOP was created by myself more than thirty years ago. Dead Divers which have been mentioned in a previous post involving the Lonely Road, were adapted from various sources including, the US Navy, and several other navies along with the movie abyss, but have been modified by myself shortly after the movie Abyss came out in Australia, since the movie does not say what the liquid is made of, and my divers use a jam/jelly to dive with. Post coming with more information on the Dead Divers.
