Captain Calwalla Bulgandramine Ranking Officer of E Company looked up from doing her Companies paperwork when she caught sight of the group entering the 14th Battalion's area, slid back her chair and rose to her feet. This was meant to be a secured area, it wasn't until she saw the Battalion's First Seargent shaking hands with one of the women, did she slow down. When their gear, or what she thought was their gear continued coming, she didn't with the Battalion XO away, she'd investigate.
“First...”
Quinn rolled his eyes at Jerrabomberra.
“Captain Bulgandramine, may I introduce Dr Jerrabomberra Goobarragaandranta, and it would be nice if you ladies noted my surname only had three letters.”
“And you're lucky I don't make you write it out one hundred times.” Calwalla shook the other woman's hand. “I take it you're going to continue Vas.”
“Dr Jerrabomberra Goobarragaandranta is the team leader of the rag tide bunch accompanying her. They are the Dead Diver Team assigned to the 14th Battalion which Blackwidow would have explained had she been here.” He handed her the PADD he'd pinched from Blackwidow's office. “14th Battalion has been chosen to be one of only a handful of Marine Battalion's who are getting non federation teams, to be incorporated into the B.”
Hell she hated the use of the letter B instead of Battalion, but it seemed since Blackwidow was using it, everyone else had followed suit.
“Should I remind you I hate the use of the letter B, or should I ask what the heck a Dead Diver is?”
“Take the latter.” Quinn grinned.
“Which means I won't win the first. So what is a Dead Diver?”
Bomb held out her arm backwards, and Arcadia handed forward a capsule. “Call me Bomb.” Jerrabomberra Goobarragaandranta told Calwalla. “A dead diver is A female. B able to dive deeper, and longer than others diving dry, because they dive with this.” Bomb handed over the capsule. “If Arc turns around, you'll notice her air tank is thinner than her side tank. A Dead Diver uses a jam/jelly semi set liquid as their air source.”
Calwalla looked at the transparent capsule and the semi yellow liquid inside.
“At the moment only females can be dead divers because the larger male adams apple stops the jelly/jam (Putting both because Aussie's call a jelly a desert and American's are familiar with a jelly as something you put on bread, but the consistency is about the same) from going into the lungs and filling them up. We have been able to liquidify the thicker mix into a thinner actual liquid which allows males to use it, however it doesn't allow them to dive as deeper as a true Dead Diver, but allows them to go deeper than using air mix to dive and stay longer. It's actually made from a combination of nineteen algae, moss, seaweed, grass and plant mix, grown under pressure, and then put into capsules. The capsules are then put into the back tanks, the capsules themselves melt and the semi liquid fills the tank or tanks. Dead Divers can't be scanned, or registered on sensors unless they're implanted with trackers, which care of the BDOP they are. At the moment we have three dead divers, there are only eight in existence but more are being trained. Arcadia, Empire and Saturn, the three wearing the diving gear. Fire is our gel maker.” Fire raised her hand so she could be identified. Savage is our team protection specialist. Griz is our wet damage control engineer, Irukandji is our Dead Diver Equipment Engineer, Neeambah is our science researcher and Ci is our general engineer. We were lead to believe there would be a seabase on the planet from which we would alternate, there to here and wherever the 14th B needed us. Arc was part of an underwater rapid response team, Empire is a qualified surgeon and general physician mainly focussed on wet medicine, but is trauma certified and Saturn is a marine construction engineer. We're also SWCC trained, and while civilians have been selectively UFP Marine Corps trained.”
Scanning throughout the PADD given to her via Quinn, Calwalla welcomed them to the 14th. “BDOP?”
“Different ballgame.” Quinn answered. “We've got you quarters in our zone, and Blackwidow's got a request in with operations for a complete deck to allow you to put up your dive tank and swimming pool.”
