Mission:
Weathering the Storm
Location: Sickbay
Leo headed down to Sickbay as soon as he was able to get the ball rolling for the station wide evacuation to the shelters, this would be his first since arriving on board how ever with his appointment as First Officer he also had to make himself aware of the procedures in such events like this. CAG had already been briefed to ferry ships into the dock, problem with civilian ships in dock was security, especially with the military vessels already inside but the lives of everyone was more important than some window views of warships. Leaving Operations Leo headed to Sickbay, the one thing that would keep the people well, treat injuries and hopefully see them through this.
Talia had already sent ancillary staff over to the tiny Med bays that they would be using in order to get the backup systems up ans running. Each one had to be powered up and their systems tested before they could be used in an evacuation
Leo saw how busy things were and tried as best he could to stay out of the way, there was an unexpected calm so to say about the atmosphere, the staff were well trained or they were truly unaware of the seriousness of the threat that loomed on the doorstep.
~Go into my office love and wait please.~ she whispered as she felt the caress of his mind in the sickbay. She was right in the middle of assigning personnel to the secondary med bay.
Shed been chewing on her lip, enough that it was cracked and swollen in her focus to get everything done swiftly and safely.
Leo waited in her office as he observed the busy scene unfolding around him, He avoided peeking at the PADD's that were on her desk as he perched against the edge of the desk and waited for her.
He waited for about 10 minutes before she came in and smiled wanly at him. "Hi..."
"Hey." He could sense the tire in her, the chaos of routine disturbed from the norm and the action it took to bring order to it. "I just wanted to drop by and see how things were going." Though now his own voice he'd a tone to it that was unusual for him, worry, slight fear though he'd never admit it. His position refused it.
"They're progressing apace. Its not as quick a process as I would like." She whispered and then raised deep violet eyes to his. She wanted to ask him if he was alright, her concern trickling through their bond.
"You heard the Captain's message?" He asked as he looked around and took to one side of the room away from listening ears.
"I did." She answered "that is why..." and she gestured towards the chaotic mess in sickbay.
"Is worse then that." Leo spoke. "Much worse." He paused as he considered his words. "We are pulling ships in the pattern into the docking spaces, any that can escape are being encouraged to. When the storm hits we will lose most of station power, only the most internal reactors will be operating but it wont be enough to power the station for long. Portable generators are being prepared, I am about to head to Engineering to see if we can use power from docked ships to keep the station going in an emergency since the ships themselves are protected from the storm."
"Gods and demons" she whispered making an evileye sign on her breast that shed learned from her mother. "Ill make sure were prepared for the worst of it. We have our own portable generators for these systems....But A total loss of power means everyone on life support dies. "
"Don't they have independent power supply?" Leo asked.
"They do but its not indefinite."
"How long?" He asked.
Not for the first time, she wondered why this wasn't the purview of the of the administrator. "12 hours, but we can possibly stretch them out to 24 if usage is closely monitored."
"I'll talk to Engineering, how many patients do you have on life support currently?" Some figures would perhaps giving him information he could relay to the Engineering staff.
"On total life support 24, on partial life support I have 31. We also have 3 incubators that need to run continuously. That is of course not taking into account any injuries or illness during the storm."
"Leave them to the last possible minute, no need to disconnect them from the main supply before we have to." The gravity of the medical situation at least was sinking in, he expected casualties as people panicked and rushed but he saw no need to add to them.
She nodded in response to that and dictated a few things to the computer in Vulcan before she turned her eyes back to her Leo. Reaching out, she found his hand, fisted at his side and worked her fingers in so that she could squeeze his hand.
"It's going to get ugly Talia." He softly spoke though somehow he suspected she knew that already. With any chaos come harm, with harm comes strain and that leads to fatalities.
"I...do not want to imagine. " she whispered back her eyes focused on him. "Are you going to be alright...?"
"I think so, but I think we are going to start seeing a lot of frayed nerves by the end of the day." Leo replied as he gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"Leo..." she whispered raising her free hand to caress the lines on his forehead, before cupping his cheek.
"Hmmm?" Leo replied looking her in the eyes.
"Dont be afraid to lean on me..." she whispered as their eyes locked.
"I think you are going to have enough leaning on you soon enough, once we are through this though, no promises." A wry smile graced his features as he looked his Imzadi over.
She didnt know quite how to take that, and simply gazed at him. "No promises huh?"
"Well I'm pretty sure that when we get home I'll be happy to lean on you, then fall asleep on you." Leo smiled.
Leaning up she kissed him tenderly on the lips and then took a deep breath of his scent. "I love you. Now go on, shoo Commander. We both have work to do."
The kiss did wonders to ease troubles focus. "Yes Ma'am." Leo replied as he gave her one last glance and then left Sickbay.
