Mission: A Day in the Life

Timeline: 18 years prior to current year.

Stardate: 237501.01

After giving a full debrief on what she remembered when she faced off with an unknown alien that boarded the ship, she was given a bit more respect and up until then the crew had only seen her as a Diplomats brat and overprivileged interloper who only got a field commission because her father was an influential person, this was far from the truth, but even in modern times such thoughts had a knack of making themselves known. As it does word got out that she was a combat vet and all before a commission but still the crew were sceptical of her qualifications, but after the incident she was afforded respect, the long scar that ran down the left side of her face was noticeable if one looked close enough, she could have had tissue regeneration done, but she decided not to, she felt it gave her a bit of a menacing air. Also it had been a year since she had gotten together with her on/off boyfriend Paul Sharpe, at one point she became pregnant, but when she lost the baby both separated but remained friends, now she was sitting in the crew lounge looking out of the window as stars passed by in long strands which signalled the USS Thunderchild was at warp, she was going over her accomplishments and such, when she noticed someone standing at her table.

She looked up and saw the Captain’s Yeoman standing there “Yes Chief?” she asked quizzically.

“The Captain wishes to speak to you sir, I am to escort you to his Ready Room, if you will follow me please,” he said.

Alex finished up her drink “lead the way laddie, lead the way” she said and followed the Yeoman out.

‘Laddie! Honestly’ the Yeoman thought to himself as he led her to the Captain’s Ready Room, after a lengthy walk from Ten Forward up to the Ready Room, the Yeoman had Alex wait outside while he went into the room, she heard faint interaction and the Yeoman exited and looked at her “you can go in Lieutenant” he said, Alex nodded her thanks and entered her Captain’s Ready Room, she came to attention and saluted the Captain who simply nodded ‘marines!’ he thought to himself, but with a smile on his face stood up and as he walked around his desk he picked up a small wooden box.

“Second Lieutenant Alexandria Somers, in recognition of your deeds and putting the needs of the many above the needs of the few, I am pleased to grant you a promotion to First Lieutenant, with all the duties and privileges that come it it” as he said this he removed her Bronze Bar and replaced it with a silver one and shook her hand and was surprised by a firm handshake.

“Thank you Captain and might I say a nice use of the Vulcan axiom” Alex said and smiled, “Yes it was” the Captain said pleased with himself “now get back to your duties Lieutenant Somers” he said and dismissed the marine, even to this day he wondered why a senators daughter would take the road that young woman took, she refused to have her scar removed, he had tried to find out about her non-commissioned past, he knew she got a field commission, but her record before that was heavily redacted and all he could ever glean was that she was a combat veteran despite her youth and had taken part in some kind of classified operation, she also had a kind of sadness about her as usually associated with someone who had watched someone close to them die.

Between Stardates 237608.01 to 238001.01 she had to change departments when she was assigned to the USS Excalibur as a Security Officer on 237608.01, then in 237701.24 returned to Marine service and was main Chief of Marines on the USS Sovereign where she had to deal with True Way operatives out on the borders of Federation space and within its space. On 237901.01 she was assigned to Deep space 5 as both a Marine Officer with a secondary duty as a Tactical Officer, she returned to earth on Stardate 238001.01 to do further training as a marine, during these years when the date 11th November came around, if she could she visited earth and to the wall of the fallen to pay her respects to the friend that she lost, it had become a thing, if she could not make it she visited the holodeck and used a replica of the same wall on earth, but she always spoke to her lost friend on this day, even if it was a monument and fresh air, it was the thought that counted in her mind.
