S.L.A.P

Mission: After the Storm
Location: Engineering Support Lab 1 | Deck 214

Much to do and priority is a logistical nightmare for a city in space. Lieutenant Commander Buck Ducati had it almost under control, almost. Of course there would be things that fell through the cracks, ha cracks, Buck mused chuckling at his own pun since the station had many of them in the hull.

He had various minions, officers and specialists that helped with both the actual work and the organisational stuff which he is eternally grateful for. He was just filling out some of the rosters for the coming weeks when the lab door opened and Hogan walked in.

“Hey,” Hogan greeted as he approached and offered a bag. “Lunch time.” He added.

Buck smiled. “Thanks, let me finish this and I’ll be with you.” He worked on the double and about 10 minutes later the rosters were done and sent to the department’s chief for review, approval and then will be dispatched to those in Maintenance.

He momentarily wondered how the investigation into the large bugs was going with the dead ones in the hull at a few locations. Why wasn’t conclusive yet but he was confident that Sciences would find out but he’d never get told he wasn’t involved in the senior officer meetings. Maybe one day he may be Chief Engineer but that seemed a ways off. He then noticed his third son Kade had come in with Hogan but remained behind his cousin's leg.

“Hey son, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at school?” Buck asked calmly.

“My project is not done and so my teacher asked me to finish it before coming back.” Kade replied softly after popping out from behind Hogan’s leg, slowly, he smiled. “I was nearly finished when Hogan said we will come see you for lunch.”

“Ah, as long as you go and complete your project after lunch I will allow you to join us.” Buck said not unkindly but firm. “If you get a good grade you can stay up later than your brothers.” He smirked.

Kade grinned too though his expression faltered for a moment across his face before it became a grin again.

Buck realised Kade must have panicked that he was unsure of what grade he’d get but all his sons had a reasonable level of grades throughout the year, occasional A, a few C minuses but they averaged at Bs which he was happy with. If they wanted to go for higher grades that was their choice but he wanted either average or above for his children.

The only time the children didn’t do well was when Iralan and Buck split up, though resolved peacefully still put the children under great stress and uncertainty. Iralan did her best but she wanted to focus on her career and Buck had been happy to take the boys off her hands. He regretted that he let them down but it was better than living under a lie with Iralan for the rest of his life.

“Thanks Daddy.” Kade said as Hogan offered the bag and Buck took it.

The three had lunch and talked about things. Mostly about the bugs and the wormhole, it was too early to tell what his sons were interested in pursuing as jobs but for now Kade seemed to like technical talk, even though he couldn’t understand the more advanced concepts but that will come with study and time.

“Okay Kade you better go and finish your project, I’ll be home in 3 hours,” Buck said to his son before turning to Hogan. “What are you doing later?”

Hogan shrugged. “I have a few repair jobs lined up for tomorrow as I am sure you know due to the recent chaos so I might turn in early but I may be convinced of some activity. Why?” He playfully narrowed his eyes at his nephew.

“Actually turning in early sounds good right now. As you said, busy day tomorrow.” Buck said after opening his mouth to say some plan but closed it, changing his mind at the last moment, but opened it again.

“S.L.A.P” Hogan said really femininely.

Buck just stared at his uncle with one raised eyebrow.

Hogan huffed. “Sounds. Like. A. Plan. Silly.” He explained and rolled his eyes before offering his hand to Kade and the two said their farewells and left Buck as he chuckled a little.
