Facing New Crew

Cale Llewellyn was on his way to his next assignment, Starbase 332, where he would be assuming his new post. He had been on leave for a whole year back in London visiting his sister, Evelyn. Though she was only his half-sister, they enjoyed each other's company mainly because they had similar interests, climatology. Cale had gotten his Masters in the subject after graduating from Starfleet Academy from Oxford University.

But, despite all this, he was happy to be getting back into space even if now this would be a stationary post and not a starship. He wondered what position he would be taking simply because he was rated for any of three positions; namely Executive, Science or Strategic Operations Officers. He hadn't been told which position he would get yet or even if he would be assuming a senior officer position.
He wasn't sure which type he wanted either. So he would just leave it up to Captain Liarra Von.

But in all actuality, he hoped to get back into command. He reread his orders and it looked as though they said he was getting assigned as Executive Officer. So he prepared for that eventuality. Though he wasn't all that sure he was ready to be XO of such a large installation, he would do his best. Cale didn't know much about the inhabitants of Starbase 332 and that was odd for him but he thought that getting to know them from jump was half the fun right?

"Commander Llewellyn, we've reached Starbase 332," Lieutenant, jg Graas said.

"That's fine, Lieutenant. Contact Station Ops as soon as we get within range," Cale said.

"Ops, this is the Runabout Arroway. We're requesting permission to land. I have Doctor Cale Llewellyn on board with orders from Admiral Alynna Nechayev," Jay Gordon Graas said evenly.

"Arroway, you're clear for approach and docking in Shuttlebay 23," came a voice from the Starbase.

"Aye, we're approaching Shuttle Bay 23," Graas said looking back at Llewellyn who nodded his ascent who went to the rear compartment to grab his gear. Finally, he was here. He was ready to meet Captain Von. So when the hatch opened, he stepped out and there she was.

"Captain Von, I'm Doctor Cale Jason Llewellyn. It's a pleasure to finally meet you," said Cale with a huge smile.

Liarra returned the smile and offered her hand in greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Commander. Welcome to Starbase 332. I hope you had a pleasant journey."

As he tried to size up his new commanding officer, he couldn't help but feel a little exposed. Mainly because she had brought someone else with her and he wasn't expecting this to happen. "Aye, I did. And who is this you have brought before, may I ask?" Cale asked quite intrigued as he'd never served with or met a feliniod.

S'er'in'e observed in silence this new arrival, noting size, posture, appearance, attitude with the Captain, all things that both as a predator and a marine he did as a matter of normality. Ever since the episode in the shuttlebay and again in his quarters he'd become more wary of unknowns, uniform not withstanding, this Commander was one such unknown. "S'er'in'e. Colonel, Marine Force Commander, CAG and acting First Officer."

"Boy, aren't you the busy little Caitian? But in any case, it's good to meet you, S'er'in'e. Colonel, Marine Force Commander, CAG and acting First Officer," Cale said with a smile and a light giggle. He could feel their emotions though he wasn't able to interpret exactly what the good Colonel was feeling. It was almost overwhelming. Though he had gotten greater control over his awareness over the years since he had grown this ability. He was still not able to filter out strong emotions like Betazoids or even Ullians. "Captain, what level are my quarters? I would like to get freshened up before I report to Ops. Wait! Is that OK with you two?"

Liarra nodded. "That would be fine, Commander. I believe your quarters will be on Deck 28, but report to the quartermaster's office on Deck 12 first to get your room assignment."

"Thank you, Captain. My gear was already sent here ahead of me so I'll report to the Quartermaster and I can get busy. Captain, is it OK with you if I tour the science section? I would like to help out there to keep my skills sharp, as it were," Cale said by way of a question.

"That's something that we'll keep in mind, Commander," Von replied. "If your duties permit, and Commander Drusus is willing to have the help, I'm sure something could be worked out."

"Lovely. Well, if that's all, Captain, I have some unpacking to do," Cale said.

"That's all from me, Commander," Liarra replied with a nod. "I'm looking forward to working with you."

"As do I, Captain. As do I," replied Llewellyn before leaving the shuttlebay.
