The Archan Job
Location: Archa IV: University
Samanthia relaxed at Gorgio's, knowing she should be heading back. Yet she sat there with her nose buried in the one of many books on Archia IV history. Specially the Sphere of Jarble. There was a lot of references to it and very little facts on it. She reached out to her drink only to find it gone. She looked up at the table, realizing she had drunk it.
She waved at a passing waitress for another drink she had been nursing while reading. She reflected back over what she had seen, read and heard. She smiled as she daydreamed a bit of being the next Archaeologist making their fame of finding an artifact of great historical significance. It would be nice to go on the lecture circuit of the major famed universities to bring more knowledge from the past into the present. The funding would be enormous for future research and sponsoring new dig sites.
She wondered if the Sphere of Jarble was made by the Iconians. A very advance race of being who had mastered the Laws of Physics and bent them to their advantage. Weapons of immense power and reach. Travel through mere gates with a few steps without the aid of ships to reach planets lightyears away.
Only species that comes even close to them was the Borg. With their hive mind links and cyborg implants linking both organic and machine into one entity could almost compete with the Iconians in technology.
She paid the waitress as she sat there giving the matter serious thought on the matter. Could the Borg be descendants of the Iconian's? She gave a shoulder as if a chilled fingers raced down her back with a feather touch. ~~power corrupts~~ Drifted through her mind as she began to put away her books into her book pack to depart. She smiled at another adage that popped into her mind from an old computer online game. ~~Absolute power sure taste sweet! ~~ She gave a soft giggle, drawing attention of those heard her.
"What's so funny, Miss?" A man in business attire spoke up as he gave himself a look over to see if there was a flaw in his attire for the day.
Samanthia looked at him and instinctively she knew the man was hired muscle. "Just thinking of an old saying. Power corrupts and the comeback for that." She slung the pack straps over one shoulder as she gave her area once over for anything overlooked.
"Whot would that be?" The guy's tone mellowed to curiosity, then took a sip of his drink, relaxing once he wasn't the source of her amusement.
"Power may corrupt. Absolute power sure taste sweet." She stood up to depart, watching him give her the once over and a nod of approval at what he saw.
He gave a soft humorous chuckle. "Most definitely, Hunny." Glancing at her pack, "what's your major?" Eyes shifting back to her as he sslid out a seat for her to join him.
"Archaeology. Going for Doctorate Degree." Samanthia glanced at her lightly jeweled feminine watch, using body language say that she had a prior engagement, and she was running late.
He nodded and settled back in his seat, letting her know she could leave at her digression. "Would you be willing to work part time for Mr. Artrex? He has a collection of antiques he needs have looked at.' Seeing her puzzlement, "To see if anyone had passed him a fake or not. Even one of your caliber should be well trained to spot a fake."
Samanthia shifted a bit, looking thoughtful as everyone in the university knew he was a major donor of funds for the university. She was curious to take a look at Mr. Artrex's collection. It was said to rival the Capitol City Museum. But unfortunately, was a private collection and only the privileged got see it. "I'll think it over. Does he have a business card that I can use to get in contact with him. Or his secretary to set up an appointment for a job interview?"
The guy reached into his jacket and pulled out a card. He held it out to her between two fingers to take. "Call the number on the back. You'll reach me and I can get you in after hours to see him. That's if his regular staff gives you the runabout." He gave a hopeful smile as he gave her another look over. Eyes narrowing at the ring on her left hand.
She gave a quick nod and a wave. She turned away from him, heading off to catch the local transit back to the aerospace port.
