Vacation [prt 5] Return to Starbase
Posted on Thu Jun 2nd, 2011 @ 7:52am by Samanthia Akiashiro
Mission:
In Defiance Of Orders
Location: Archa IV / SB 332
Samanthia paced her little assigned quarters, lost in debate on whether to let the Archa keep the box or recover it for Star Fleet. If she was still a fleeter, it would be simple. Recover the Black Flight Box. But it could also be from a ship of that era also.
Right now it was being cleaned up in one of the many labs that dotted the Archeological site for farther study. She paced for a bit more, glancing at the time frowned abit and then sighed as she freshened up from her trip into the underground city.
Soon she was sitting with Professer Heidleburg in one of the many little canteenas that served the local brew, listening to the soft music being emmitted from the speakers.
"It's wonderful to have someone new who is interested in the past." Heidleburg spoke with a smile as he took a sip of his brew, leaning back in his seat. "Not often people stop to stay at a newly discovered site. Most go for the more established discoveries that become tourist show pieces."
"I'm sure the more established tourist sites wonderful to explore. But this is where all the excitement is at. A freshly discovered one with everything still in location, waiting to be discovered and catalogged. Like the newly discovered Metropolis that was uncovered by the landslide." She smiled softly, relaxing as she took in the decor of the place. Showing off the cleaned up and polished artifacts placed about the room to add an air of antiquity to the place.
Heidleburg beamed with pleasure, "I take this interest is more than a passing interest?" Watching the young offworlder lady before him with keen interest. Seeing how poised and comfortable she was sitting there with a beermug on her hands.
He could picture her sitting with equal ease in a posh restaruant with a wine glass in her hand and holding a much different conversation.
"Very much so. Something I don't indulge in much as my occupations led me down a different paths. But I do spend as much time allotted to me to visit such sites when I can." Samanthia smiled softly, then took a sip of beer. "Have you discovered which ship that blackbox belonged to?"
"A USS Thaden." Heidleburg spoke, "We having a computer specialist from the University flown out here tomorrow to crack open the data stored in it."
Samanthia wished she had a combadge with her right now. But she didn't and had to think of a way to get a call to the Starbase in order to retrieve the Thaden's Blackbox. She could steal it, which then she would have to get a vehicle to get it off the site for later retrievel. "If I could. I'd call the station and have them beam down a computer specialist to take a look at it." And to herself ~~and a security team to retrieve the blackbox~~
"Naw, I've already called the University when we got back here, but thanks for the offer." Heidleburg spoke with a smiles once again, finishing off his beer. "That sounds like a Federation ship name."
"It is," Samanthia confirmed for him, then took a sip of beer, relishing the smoothy taste. "I'd like to procure some of this stuff for my club up on the starbase," smiling up at him as she set the mug on the table between them.
"You would have to talk with the Beer Distilleries on that. I'm sure they'd appreciate the business." He raised an eyebrow at her as if she was one of his students that had gotten in trouble and was interested in hearing the excuse. "What made you decide to run a bar or club as you call it."
"With my degree in counsiling, and I like the relaxed atmosphere of the club, I figured I could do more good as bartender and manager than as a ship board counsiler. In dealing with the problems of both Fleet and Civilians beyond duty shift. As everyone knows..being abit intoxicated, loosens tongues abit and are more relaxed knowing they can walk away anytime. Everyone seams to babble to bartenders." She gave a soft smile.
"Yeah, isn't that the truth!" He exclaims, setting his beer down. "How long have you been doing this? Running a club." Showing curiousity.
Samanthia though for a bit as she mentaly calculated the time, "Several years now...Like five years now." Looking around the room as the place slowly emptied out. "You still teach archeology at the University?"
"It's the only way to get the funding from them to help with the excavation of our history and to keep students from running amok in town with their parties and getting in trouble with the law. In order to get a good passing grade, they must spend at least three weeks out here at the digsite to fullfill the lab requirements. As some students think this is an easy class to get a decent grade to maintain their grade average."
"And to get free help at the sites," Getting a chuckle from him.
"You're very perceptive, Miss Akiashiro. I do offer courses through the info network. I can count this time towards your labwork in the field." Hiedleburg offered with a smile. "You do have a keen mind for this type of work and not afraid to get dirty."
"I'll think about it." Accepting a card from Hiedleburg with the necessary information on where to find the course being offered and his contact number at the University. They settled back in their seats and listened to the Archian music that was playing sofly in the background to add ambience to the place.
"I need to get some sleep for a busy day tomorrow." Professer stood up, "It has been a pleasant conversation."
Samanthia also stood up when he did also. "I enjoyed the time," giving him a soft smile as she headed to the door with him tagging along. "Tomorrow Ben will be arriving to take back to the city."
She exited the Canteena and glanced at the well lit digsite and seen the hazy dust fog that surrounded the busy site as the work continued through the night. She moved on down the walkway towards her housing unit with Professer tagging along, making sure she arrived safely at her assigned quarters, talking about other things that came to mind.
"Thank you for letting hang out here for a day or two, Professer," Samanthia smiled at the Professer as she unlocked the assigned housing unit.
"Not a problem. I enjoyed having you here. You're more than welcome to come back anytime and do give concideration on applying for my online class." Professer gave her a smile and waved bye.
Professer took off down the path to his quarters, letting her retire for the night, whistling a joyful tune and hands in his pockets.
Samanthia closed the door to her unit after entering. She sighed as it was time for her to return back to the Starbase 322 tomorrow and work...
