An Angry Chief Beats Three of a Kind

"What the hell is going on in here?!" Allein demanded as the doors to engineering slid closed behind her.

The expression on the three on-duty officers first dropped and then became horrified as one by one they lowered their cards and looked at her. Still holding her PaDD, she slapped it hard against the back of one of their heads and the others dropped their cards as the Bolian let out a sharp "Ow!"

"Get up!"

They stood, coming to guilty attention and she crossed her arms.

"We might be entering a hostile situation and you're sitting on your asses like a bunch of cadets." She snarled. "No, you know what? Pick up your cards and keep playing, 'cause I'd like to see the expressions on your dead faces when the Captain calls for shields and all you can give them is a brokenwaste disposal system."

The group looked uncertain as to whether or not she actually expected them to retrieve their cards.

Allein had never been this angry and when she got angry, really angry, it was always very easy for that to turn into a storming fit of tears. She swallowed, she wasn't going to let herself get that far. "You're all on report," she concluded. "Now get to work before I decide to beam you all into space. And believe me," she smirked. "I was married to a Cardassian, I can make it look like an accident." She let them sit on that for a moment. "Patrilo, Tash, I want the weapons systems at peak efficiency in half an hour." The two hurried off. "Crawford, you're with me on the shields."

Still shaking with anger she threw her PaDD onto the table, scrambling the cards and reached for her toolkit. They had better hope the ship was ready to go if it was needed.
