Mission: Reindeer Games

[ON]

Brian was standing as the Jackal dropped out of warp, and almost had to steady himself against the shock of the sight before him. The Starfleet message had said the station had been attacked, but he hadn't expected there too be a gaping hole, covering hundreds of decks, in the side of the station. He could already make out the swirling flotsam and debris that had spilled out from the hole, along with the less rigid shapes that he knew could only be bodies caught in the decompression following the blast.

"Cancel red alert." His voice sounded hoarse as he returned to the command chair and sat down. Whilst he was reacting in the abstract; to the fact that a Starfleet station had been so brutally attacked, and that hundreds of Starfleet officers had been killed or injured, he knew that it would be worse for most of the Jackal's crew, as well as those on the Carthage; to them, their home had been attacked, and their friends had been killed or injured.

Kelly was speechless. Starbase 332 was like a fortress. He could only imagine what caused that kind of damage, and that thought didn't settle well. He started going over the sensors, trying to find something useful.

Ensign Price was also going over her sensors. Her hands were visibly shaking while she fumbled over the controls. To keep her composure, she was doing what she knew how, trying to locate and solve the problem. "Captain," she said, her voice as shaky as her hands. "I'm not clear on what could have caused the explosion, but I don't think anything could have done that kind of damage from outside the station."

"Doctor Keller," Brian said, leaning over as he tapped the intercom system on the arm of his command chair. "Gather all medical personnel available, and prepare to beam over to the station. Emergency protocols."

"Well, as I'm the only medical personnel onboard, that'll be easy" Miranda responded, as she started to gather what medical supplies she could fit into a bag, "when we're in range, beam me directly to sickbay"

"Are we picking up any non-Starfleet ships in the sector that could pose a danger?" the commander asked after receiving his answer from the doctor, trying to make sure he could regain control over the situation they had been dealt.

"Nothing on sensors, Commander. There's very little traffic at the moment."

"Then take us in closer to the station, and liaise with the Carthage and Ops - if you can reach them - and offer the ship's transports to supplement those available to transport the wounded to medical facilities on the planet's surface."

"Aye sir." Kelly tried several times to raise the station. "I'm not getting anything. Their comms may be down."

Ensign Price voiced her agreement. "The explosion seems to have disabled power in a lot of the station, including the secondary and primary antennae. We probably won't be able to raise them from here until we can get the backups to the backups online."

"Take an engineering team; see what you can do," the commander responded. Settling back into his chair, and reaching his hand up to cup his chin, he tried to set his mind to work; to try and come up with some possible next steps beyond the immediate needs of helping with the wounded and with repairs.
