Mission: Vagrants, Vagabonds, and Thieves
Location: Miranda's Quarters

ON:

Brian had just ended a duty shift in Station Operations when he entered the turbolift, but he didn't feel like spending the evening in solitude in his own quarters, so as the lift descended to take those who shared it with him to their selected destinations, he stood and tried to decide where he wanted to go. There were plenty of suggestions abound from the choices his crew mates were choosing; the promenade, the shuttlebay or transporter room to take a trip down to the planet's surface, or various labs and workshops to work on their own private little projects, or even the holodecks to indulge in some harmless fantasy for a few hours. None of those options really appealed to Brian though, and so when the final person had departed the lift and left him on his own, he made his decision. "Doctor Keller's quarters." The lift had to make its way back up to get towards the staff quarters, but it wasn't long before it deposited him in an empty corridor, dimly lit to match the station's day/night cycle.

As he found his way towards the doctor's doorway, he stopped to make sure he looked presentable, and then pressed the com panel next to her door to announce his presence.

Miranda was laying on her bed reading a romance novel and trying to relax and unwind. For the past few days, the only rest she'd had was when she had managed to get a few hours rest in her office in sickbay. Other than that, she'd been flat out with the almost constant flow of patients into and out of sickbay. However, now that it was practically over, Miranda had left her staff to finish off a few small things and went straight to her quarters for some peace and quiet.

As she turned to the next page of her book, she heard the chime from the door sound, indicating someone was there. Rolling out of bed, She quickly threw on a dressing gown, tied her hair back and walked out to see who was there, and hopefully send them away.

Opening the door, she was surprised to see Brian standing there, "oh hi" she said, straightening up her gown a little, hoping to look less disheveled, "Um, what's up?"

"I just wanted to check in on you," Brian answered, smiling disarmingly. "Things have been more than a bit busy lately. I wanted to make sure you were coping with it all."

Miranda smiled, "That's sweet of you. Why don't you come in and sit with me for a while?"

"Thank you," Brian said, as he moved in to the quarters and glanced around. The lights were fairly dim, except for the glow he could see coming from the bedroom, and he guessed that she had either been getting ready for bed or trying to relax. "I'm not disturbing you, am I?"

"Hmm?" Miranda said, looking over at the bedroom, "Oh, no not really, I was just relaxing. Would you like something to eat, drink?"

"I could do with a drink," Brian answered, clasping his hands together in front of his chest. "But I'm indecisive tonight as to what. Why don't you surprise me?"

Miranda smiled and shook her head, "Take a seat and I'll get you something" she said, walking over to the replicator. After a few minutes, she returned carrying a pot of tea and two cups, "So, How's the ship?"

"The ship, or the station?" Brian fired back with a grin. "No complaints with the former; the Jackal's running as smooth as can be. The station... well, she's getting there. But it will be some time yet before its back to 100%."

Miranda smiled empathetically, "I'm sure you'll have things running smoothly again. So, about the Jackal, will you need a new medical officer, now that I'm the Chief of Medicine on this station?"

"The ship'll probably need a new standing medical officer," Brian said, nodding. "But I imagine that in your new job you'll end up coming with whichever ship needs you."

Miranda shrugged, "I imagine the only times I'd get to leave this station is for leave or an emergency on the planet"

"I wouldn't be so sure," Brian fired back. "Afterall, from the reports I've been reading, Daniels left the station plenty of times - she was even on the Carthage during our wargames scenario. Say the word, and I can think of a suitable enough excuse to get you off the station for a few days."

Miranda smiled, "and where would you take me if I did ask? Maybe somewhere quiet where we could talk or somewhere more private?"

Brian grinned at that. "Depends on how nice you asked me."

Miranda grinned, "Oh please mister big starship captain, won't you take me on a romantic journey on your starship."

"Hmm, a romantic journey now," Brian said, his tone teasing as he put his empty cup down and stood to move closer. "I don't know, the crew of a starship may get in the way of a romantic getaway."

"Can't you just order them to stay out of the way? I'd make it worth your while" Miranda said, still playing her part

"And how would you see to that?" Brian was now standing right in front of her now, his hands on her hips as he looked down towards her, the difference in their height much more evident in their close proximity.

"Oh, I have my ways." With a smile Miranda pulled Brian down to her, his lips meeting against hers.
