Relieved of Duty

Warren Harper sighed as he stepped into the holding cell area. He had already cleared everything with his superiors regarding Sivity and her punishment, but now it was time for him to lay it on her. With her history of a temper, especially in the situation that led to this debacle to begin with, he didn't want to take any chances. He made sure that he had the detention duty officer with him when he let her out.

The pair of them walked to Sivity's cell. Harper stopped in front of the forcefield, while the other officer went to the controls. With a nod from Harper, the other officer dropped the forcefield, but stood ready in case it needed to be reinstated. Harper looked at the prisoner, one of his officers. "Ensign Dar-Barriun."

Sivity looked up from her meditative lotus position on the floor as if only recognising his presence because he'd spoken. Naturally, with her augmented hearing, she'd heard both footfalls long before the force field was dropped. She unpeeled herself lazily and stood. She smiled as she saluted. She somehow managed to make the gesture seem mocking. Mostly, that was a product of her knowing smile.

"Yes, sir, what can I help you with today?" She enquired. She nodded at the big guard. She knew him. More importantly, he knew her. They'd sparred. She'd won. He did the paperwork. She noted that neither carried a phaser. That seemed wise. With a sigh she put her hands behind her back and tried to look non-threatening. It shouldn't have been hard given her high heeled boots, but both men continued to eye her most warily.

"Sivity, I've been meeting with the district attorney's office. As you've probably noticed," Harper said as he gestured with his head towards the cell across the aisle, "Ms. Akiashiro has been released. They've made a deal with the local magistrate. All charges against her have been dropped, although the confiscated goods will remain confiscated. In exchange, all charges against you are also dropped."

Sivity looked at him coldly for a moment. The big guard twitched. She then exhaled deeply and did her best to relax.
"Fine." Let's get out of here then. "I'm sure you've got more pressing things to do than stand around chatting in the brig."

Harper held up his hand to let her know that there was more. "However, you still handled the situation poorly. You were right about ordering that the crate be checked, but you took things too far when you attacked Ms. Akiashiro. That's not the way we do things. We don't threaten with phasers and we don't pull suspects to the ground like that unless they pose a threat. And I've seen the recordings. She didn't."

"Thrass Shit." Sivity hissed. "She refused to comply with my order - repeatedly. No one else was prepared to make a stand against the 'great' Akiashiro name. My actions were justified. Furthermore, she attacked me first. I retaliated."

Harper shook his head. "I've already talked with my superiors. You're being released, but you are on a thirty day suspension without pay starting from today. Hopefully you use your time to think about how you should have handled the situation. If it happens again, I can't guarantee that you'll be let off so easily."

She snorted lightly in disgust. The lack of pay hurt, but the main insult was that she'd actually repent her actions. She walked up to Harper. "And I can't guarantee I'll be so gentle next time." She hissed at him. Without further words she walked passed them and out of the detention area. She knew the way. Caressing her luck stone as she exited the complex, she smiled. There was always an up side: no more reports to written for a whole month! That deserved a celebration.

It could have been a lot worse, Harper mused as Sivity stormed off. He didn't want to to suspend her. She may have been brash, lazy with reports, and not respective of superior officers, but she got results. He hoped the Promenade didn't fall apart without her, and that she might actually learn something from the experience. But he wasn't about to hold his breath.
