On Patrol

Mission:
Vagrants, Vagabonds, and Thieves
Location: Promenade
The days had been long and tedious. She’d been undertaking 12 hour shifts most days. The refugees were demanding. It was understandable, but still grew tiresome; especially after 11 hours. What grated more was that they still hadn’t allowed her a phaser. The end of her review period was two days ago, but everyone was so busy that no-one had had the time to sit down and go through the necessary procedure to re-arm her. Even worse than that, they’d forbidden her to wear heels whilst on duty. She felt short and frumpy. Her long, silver mane was held up in a neat, high plait. Although Sivity was acutely disappointed with her appearance, she continued to attract a great deal of attention. She attributed this to her plethora of charms and fetishes.
Sivity strolled through the promenade. She was easily recognised and that worked extremely well. Over the past several days, she’d stopped a great many fights; some before they’d started, but most after. Those that had encountered her persuasive crowd control techniques had wisely not repeated their infractions. They had also spread the word not to mess with the crazy Andoran bitch. She carried her large night stick openly. The shop keepers smiled at her. They knew that she had a tendency to hit first and ask questions second. It did wonders to instil order. Shoplifting had decreased and fights simply no longer broke out; at least not in Sivity’s vicinity.
Her tactics were simple, but brutal. She stroke at knees hands and elbows. Those struck were generally in no condition to fight. Of course, her reports barely mentioned such incidents.
“Ensign.” A deep, vaguely familiar voice boomed from across the open walkway. She turned. It was Skorl; the immense Klingon marine with whom she’d trained whilst suspended.
“It is good to see you, Skorl.” She replied as he came close enough that she did not have to raise her voice. Her shouting was barely better than her singing and her singing was non existent.
“I had feared a very dull assignment, but then I got paired with you.” Rumbled Skorl as he graced her with a rare smile. It was a chilling sight, but Sivity had grown accustomed to it and so answered it with her own.
“Why are we ‘paired’ then, you and I?” She enquired.
“Policy.” He answered enigmatically. “Seems we marines are to help Security. You lack numbers.”
“Yes, that is true enough. I hope this means I get some shorter shifts.” She answered still smiling.
“Me too: I do not want to be wandering corridors for hours on end. Still, following you I doubt it will be uneventful.” He answered.
“How are you at producing reports?” She asked impishly.
“Not my best skill, but they aren’t that difficult.” He replied honestly.
“I think then, that we shall have some good times.” She laughed softly.
They headed off away from the main turbo lifts and toward a maze of retail outlets.
“You heard about the Klingon ship?” Enquired Skorl after a few moments.
“No. Should I?” Sivity replied. She’d heard nothing, but there were so many rumours it was impossible to keep track of them all.
“Apparently there’s a Bird of prey docking soon. The Klingons want to see the full extent of the problems in the area. Well, that is what I heard.” He explained.
“More likely, they don’t want to miss out on some action.” Sivity reasoned.
"Yes, that does seem more likely." He agreed. "If they do come though, I think we should go for the chaperone detail."
"Really. You think that would be fun?" She queried, a little unsure of the wisdom of that course.
"Oh yes. You have an uncanny ability to find trouble: that will keep the Klingons highly entertained and out of everyone else's hair. Besides, you fight as well as any Klingon I've met - excluding me, of course." He explained.
"Of course." Sivity replied in mock sincerity. Skorl was a lot stronger than she, as was almost every pother Klingon, but she had speed, skill and a natural aggression that was a match for any Klingon. "I'd be interested in that job - now that you've explained the merits."
"I expected that you'd feel that way, but as it's only rumour we'd best focus on the here and now." Skorl brought things back into focus.
"Good call; I saw some youths hanging around a storage area behind the stores earlier. It might prove interesting to see if they are still there." Sivity rfeplied with an impish grin.
"Pincer move? You lead. I'll provide the unwelcome surprise." He answered immediately.
"Perfect." She grinned even more broadly. Her day had just got a lot better. If only they'd let her wear her heels; she was sure she'd have a ricked neck from looking up at the mountainous Skorl. Even with her heels he dwarfed her, but their current disparity in height was ridiculous.
Skorl peeled off to her right and she made her way towards what promised to be a fun encounter with some angry and petulant youths.
