Home, Sweet Ship

Mission: Vagrants, Vagabonds, and Thieves
Location: USS Carthage

[ON]

Ensign T'Leia studied Corrine Steiner in her typical Vulcan quiet, statuesque poise. She found the human's body language to be disturbing. "Ensign Steiner, are well?"

Corrie brushed aside her less than immaculate hair, "I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"If my understanding of humans is accurate, you are exhibiting physical symptoms of stress."

Corrie was able to smile at that. "Get used to it."

The answer seemed obvious to the Vulcan, "Perhaps you should see Lieutenant Avant?"

Fighting against the swell of irritation at having to often repeat herself, Corrine efforted calm, "Known condition... am in-process with medical."

"Understood." Methodically moving past the moment, T'Leia asked, "Now that we have toured USS Carthage, may I ask your opinion of it?"

"It shouts Vulcans and Andorians."

"Curious... How so?"

"Everything in Engineering and Operations epitomizes orderly Vulcan planning. The heavy weapon dispersal and protocols smack of warriors."

"I would think that your first guess would be Klingons."

Corrie shook her head, "Couldn't be."

"And why is that?"

"Do you see any phaser, blaster, or bullet hits on the walls?"

"Point taken."

"May I ask what plans or changes you have in mind for this ship's operations?"

"As few as necessary."

"I find that to be a relief. Many humans, if I may say, tend to allow their enthusiasm to inject changes where none are necessary."

"I'm a fan of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'."

"And if it is... 'broke'?"

"When in doubt, rip it out."

The Vulcan gave a nod. "You seem to have a dichotomous nature. You are patiently cautious, even timid. Yet, you also seem tense and ready to react sharply."

"Thank you, Counselor."

"Your facetiousness... do I annoy you?"

Corrie closed her eyes for a moment, "No. I'm complimenting you. I find your observation skills to be refreshing."

"A number of humans in the crew find my observation to be... relentless, even micromanaging."

"We aren't as disciplined as you."

T'Leia returned a nod. "My question still stands. Do you have ideas or plans to announce? It seemed like something preoccupied your mind near engineering."

Corrie nodded, "The infrastructure of this Excelsior was altered during its Lakota upgrade."

"It was."

"There are several access tubes which were cut off and walled over. I'd like to make those sealed off places made accessible again."

"May I ask why? There is no function for them."

"There will be."

"Would you care to explain?"

Corrie closed her eyes and shook her head. Her voice was scarcely above a whisper, "No..."
