Mission: Ill Tidings
Location: CAG's Office

Ed stretched as he wrapped up his day in the office. It had been rather eventful. The morning patrol with Blaze and her crew had been a nice change of pace, but then it was back to the grind of being CAG. Of course, the new shiny silver oak leaf on his collar was a pleasant surprise, and just as surprising was his being given command of the Jackal as well. Of course now he had to break the news, which he considered to be both good and bad news, to both Lynsi and Ryan. If he was going to be going out on patrols with the Jackal it was certainly going to change up their lives as well as his.

Ed shook his head as his door chimed. There was always some last minute detail to look at before he left for the night. "You've got about 30 seconds before I'm off duty so you better make it snappy." He called out.

The office door slid open to allow Lynsi to enter. Her eyes were scanning over the text on the PADD she carried, so it took her a moment before she looked up. "I have the flight reports from today," she said as she lowered the PADD. The two had given up on most of the formalities, at least when they were alone. "Casualties from that collision were pretty high, but fortunately no fatalities. The ship that hit our transport is being investigated, but that's really out of our hands." She laid the PADD on his desk. "Calling it a night?"

"Yeah, it's been quite a day. Full of surprises actually. Which is something we need to talk about." Ed said with a grin. "I got bumped up to just shy of full bird this afternoon and then the Captain decided to give me command of the Jackal."

Lynsi's eyes widened. "She promoted you and gave you command of the Jackal? And to think you're just a lowly marine." She gave him a smile to remind him that she was joking. "Congratulations, Ed. You deserve it."

"Is that all I get?" He asked with a chuckle as he got up and walked around the desk. "Not even a congratulations kiss Lynsi?"

She stood up in front of him, putting her arms around his neck. "Well, you are a Colonel now. I just figured it wouldn't be proper." Her smile was enough to tell him that she in no way agreed with her own sentiment.

"Now since when has that ever stopped us?" Ed asked, returning her smile. "I mean, I am your boss and all." He said as he kissed her and picked her up at the same time.

Lynsi returned the kiss and squeezed him tight. After the long embrace, she started to pull away. "So what does your new command mean for the air wing? Are you going to be away a lot, or is it just another tool in your toolbox?"

"The Captain specifically mentioned something about me leading the air wing in a charge from the bridge of the Jackal, so in that regard I would say as another tool, but it is a garrison ship. I would be very surprised if it was going to sit around until someone attacks us. My guess would be it's going to be a bit of both situations."

He paused a moment as his next question could bring a whole new level to their relationship and wasn't something he brought up on a mere whim. It was something he had been debating with himself from the moment he said yes to accepting the command. However, there was only one way to find out if Lynsi was ready for such a step. Ed leaned back against his desk, resting his hands on the edge of it.

"Me being gone on missions brings up a topic I've been debating with myself since I agreed to the command. The Jackal is a Defiant class, not much room for me to take Ryan along when I have to go out for days, or maybe even weeks at a time. Now, I don't want to put any pressure on you at all Lyns, you know me well enough to know I wouldn't do that. Ryan is going to need someone around while I'm gone. So I was wondering if you would be willing to move in with us? Part time to keep an eye on him while I'm off with the Jackal or maybe even full time. I mean the boy does like you, almost as much as I do." He said with a warm smile. "I can't think of anyone else I'd trust to watch after my son while I'm off base."

Lynsi was a little surprised by the question, and she showed it by her grip on Ed loosening. Her arms dropped to her side as she contemplated the question. "Ed, I...well...moving in full time is such a big step. I mean, we haven't been dating that long." They had been seeing each other for a few months, but it still felt like a big step. "Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to watch over Ryan while you're gone, and if you want me to stay at your place to do that, I probably can. You know I like him very much. I...just need to think about the full time thing."

Part of her was really worried about how it would make Ed feel. She certainly had strong feelings for him, but it was a big step. And not just for their relationship, but for her as well. Blaze had been a lone wolf for a while. She spent a lot of time with her squadron off duty, but she always had her own place to go back to when she needed to just crash. Moving in with Ed and Ryan, that she would need some time to think about. "Maybe we should do the part time thing for now, and see how things go."

"Take your time Lyns." Ed said with a smile as he gently pulled her to him again. "It was pretty sudden I know. Just been you for a long time I know, well you and that band of misfits you call a Squadron." He teased as he kissed her forehead and stood up. "Think it over, we'll just continue on how we have been for now. You coming with for dinner tonight when I tell Ryan what happened today?"

"Hey, those misfits have been patrolling this station long before you were here," she fired back with a smirk. She changed her tone back to something a little more serious. "Don't worry, I'm still on for dinner tonight. You can count on that."
