Passing the Dream

A couple of hours, some soldier liquid sleep nutrients, and neural massage had Ensign Steiner functional again. Far from wanting to escape sickbay, she took full advantage of her isolation on the huge base. With small holoscreens emanating from her personal computer interface, she was driven to get this file competed and submitted. Only then would her mind let go of the preoccupation.

"Computer, personnel search. Are there any known individuals in this sector who are similar phenotype to Samanthia Akiashiro?"

==DEFINE SIMILAR.==

Corrie exhaled a growling sigh. "Restating. Display closest phenotypic matches, grid format." Images projected and she swept through the pages. "Not even close!" She sighed, shaking her head. "Computer, does Akaishiro have a history of archaeological interest?"

==LOCAL DATA DOES NOT SO INDICATE. DO YOU WISH TO SUBMIT AN EXTENDED SEARCH?==

She sat for a few moments, considering. "Negative. It's her. I feel it. Computer, have any other submitted queries returned positive results?"

==AFFIRMATIVE. THE ANCIENT LIBRARY IN THE ADIRKAL SYSTEM SENT A PROFILE.==

"Display it." Corrie sat back, more than a little surprised. "That's it! That's what I saw. But what is it?"

==RACE, ICONIAN. HIGHLY ADVANCED ANCIENT RACE. ACCOMPLISHED GATEWAY TRAVEL. CLASSIFIED AS BENEVOLENT, BUT CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL DETAILS DISAGREE WITH MEMORY ALPHA RECORDS.==

At length, Corrie sighed restfully and whispered, "All right. This is as much as I can do. Computer, format a classified security for Captain Von based on current open file." Beeps confirmed the instruction. "Include all elements, star map, shuttlecraft, portal description, Akaishiro, Sojourners, and Iconians."

More beeps confirmed.

"Begin header message. Captain Von, my latest dream was of Samanthia Akaishiro. She will be exploring a sealed Iconian portal, description attached. She appeared to be alone, but I cannot be sure. An armed Sojourner party will stealth to attack her. There will be a gunfight and she will be struck down. Condition unknown, but I assume capture will be the objective. Some sort of lingering Iconian presence attempted to warn her, but she could not perceive them. Perhaps a Betazoid might be able to see them. I await your call at your convenience if you desire discussion. Computer, end header message and seal. Send immediately."

=/Ops to Steiner...\=

"Steiner here."

=/What the heck are you still doing in sickbay?\=

"Oh, you know medical types! They're predators. I must have sneezed or maybe coughed once."

=/We need you.\=

"On my way." Corrie took one last look at the Iconian image and whispered, "What are you getting yourself into, Samanthia Akaishiro?"
