The perennial problem with starbases is, civilians are all too often not so civil. Cadet Jasmine once again found herself crossing paths with xenos of incompatible ire. A young Klingon female, a dangerous combination in and of itself, fumed with contempt the sight of a delicate, graceful Shokirian. It infuriated her that Klingon allied itself with a Federation which catered to such weaklings.

"Get out of my way."

Jasmine smiled, "I'm so sorry. Please, do go first."

The Klingon growled, "Have you no dignity, dog?"

"Hopefully."

A second time, the irate woman went out of her way to be in the way. "Why don't you get out of here? Your presence is insulting!"

"I guess that makes us even, then."

The Klingon answered with a backhand which sent Jasmine careening. Before she impacted with cargo containers, however, a light shimmered over the Shokirian's body. Delicate pearly scales began unfolding over her skin. Instincts triggered, the Klingon reached for her weapon. "Armor!"

Jasmine presented an open hand. An orb of blazing, crackling energy leapt from it and enveloped her assaulter. As the Klingon writhed on the deck, the Shokirian slowly approached. The scales nearest her face sprayed a thin, healing web over her cheek wound. The reflective visor over her eyes turned transparent. Standing near her foe, she held up her hand and recalled the lashing energy back into an orb.

Alarmed, the Klingon spoke when she was able, "What is that?"

"Apparently, the only language you understand."

"You had better kill me, surrat! Because I am going to make you EAT THAT!"

Jasmine calmly shook her head, "No. You won't. Replicate it, and it won't serve you. Reflect it, and it will not harm me. It is organic technology, high voltage thought energy extruded from my own life form." She tipped her head with raised brows, "Are you through attacking me?"

"For the moment."

Jasmine closed her hand, and the orb vanished.

Shaking off the painful stun, the Klingon propped herself up on one elbow. "That is not Starfleet issue!"

"It is Tholian, a natural thing for arachnea to adapt spinneret emissions."

The Klingon began chuckling in appreciation, "So you're not the helpless little pacifist, after all!"

"Just because I live as a servant, it doesn't mean that I'm always pacifist."

The aggressive woman squinted, "Tell me, Does your mistress know about your spider toys?" She squinted, "No, she doesn't!" She got up. "Steiner is not your mistress. She's your prey! Isn't she, little Tholian!"

"I am symbiotic, not predatory like you. The better I support her, the better we both survive." Jasmine tipped her head, "Oddly enough, though, I do know of a deadly dimorphic arachnean species which can assume human form."

The Klingon stared at her for a few moments, "I would still learn of your strange organic weapons."

"Give me sufficient reason. Next time I return home, I will ask if non-Barrier species can utilize it." Jasmine gave a polite bow, cautiously backing away.

After she was out of sight, another Klingon woman drew near, "What was that?"

The newly educated female smiled gleefully, "A challenge."
