"What are you talking about?" Karx wailed, clenching his fists in frustration. "This is an absolutely sound investment. Guaranteed return within three months."

"I've told you before, brother." Venin sat peacefully in his favourite armchair, half-ignoring the teeth-gnashing of his brother. "The return is something which is a positive. I'm not saying that what you're proposing is a bad investment, just not the one which will yield the most profit. Your guaranteed return in three months is nothing compared to the bountiful return we can expect in nine months from our other option."

"But you're forgetting about the long-term cash flow opportunities," Karx persisted, determined to finally win one of these arguments. "The initial return pales in comparison with the year on year dividends we can expect."

"But you're forgetting about the risks that come from exporting and transporting Aspritania. Sure it's a popular drink but they'll be bringing it across dangerous space. If we lose a shipment, maybe two, we'll be- how do the hewmons say- up a creek?"

"Rule of Acquisition number sixty-two, brother," Karx said with a gleeful smile, thinking he was about to land the telling blow. "The riskier the road, the greater the profit."

Venin made a burbling noise. He couldn't deny that the proposition Karx had put forward was a tempting one but after they had almost destroyed their savings with their pursuit of Crelar Rax and had only recently come by this small windfall. "You're not wrong, brother."

Karx bared his teeth and let out an excited chuckle, "This is our chance, brother. Too long we've seen others prosper ahead of us. Too long we've been afraid to take the risks and reap the rewards. This is our time. We will make it work!" He looked around at the room and sneered, "Besides, if it pays off, we'll be able to get out from under the thumb of this hewmon and his bar. Think of it, brother. Freedom!"

"Where is that hewmon by the way?" Venin asked slowly. He hadn't seen the owner of Alexander's in months.

Karx reached into his waistcoat pocket and pulled out a PADD, "I don't know; didn't he get promoted or something?" He dismissed the distraction with a wave of his hand and thrust the PADD to his brother. "Here, here are the investment papers. All we have to do is authorise the transfer."

Venin shrugged. The less he saw of Jordan Gunning, the better. He was much happier without him looming over him. "Okay, Karx. But if we incur any penalties, it's coming out of your share."

The younger brother almost squealed in excitement. "You won't regret this, brother. Just you wait and see!" he held the PADD up closer to him, "I need your thumb scan."

Venin already felt himself overcome with regret as he lifted his thumb to the PADD.
