My People Will Talk To Your People

Posted on Mon Aug 31st, 2015 @ 2:38pm by Commander Jordan Gunning & Captain Liarra Von & Kinich Ahau

Mission: By Dawn's Early Light
Location: Commanding Officer's Office, [Deck 12, SB332]
Timeline: MD01: 0400hrs [Station Time]

"Captain Von," the Archan President sat gravely in his office, unbeknown to the Trill on the space station, surrounded by advisors and senior officials of the Archan government. He had just managed to maintain his slender majority and secure his third term as president but the rumours he was hearing were making him uneasy, "I have heard rumours. Very troubling rumours." He looked at something in the middle distance, an advisor goaded him on. "Very, very troubling rumours about Sojourner escalations. I want to speak with you about Starfleet's intentions for the area should they attempt to move in here."

Say 'rumors' one more time, Liarra thought to herself. She wasn't thrilled to be talking to President Ahau again, but she did her best to make sure that her outward expression didn't match her inward expression. It was one of those rare moments when Jazeera's acting lessons were actually helpful. "Mr. President, I have been in touch with Cestus III. Starfleet is monitoring the situation closely to see if the Sojourners make a move. Our intentions are to hold strong. At this time there has been no strong indication that they are targeting this system."

"There have been strong indications that they are targeting every system, Captain. They've already penetrated the defenses of 332 once before, so why wouldn't they be able to turn it to their advantage again?" He was being unnecessarily harsh but the new face of his Cabinet was significantly more unfriendly to Starfleet than he was himself. "What makes you think they wouldn't want Archa four?"

I can think of at least one reason they wouldn't want your planet, Liarra mused. "That's a valid point, Mr. President. But we've increased our security. They won't be getting into the station so easily again. And as long as this station is under Starfleet control, I won't let them get to Archa Four."

"Well I certainly appreciate your assurances Captain." Ahau said quietly, not really convinced by his own posturing. "Perhaps my cabinet could tour your facility's new improvements; it may put their minds at ease."

Captain Von was not really in the mood to play tour guide, but if it would get the Archan government off her back, she was willing to oblige. "If it will help put their minds at ease, I would be happy to arrange a tour."

"I believe it would, Captain. There are a lot of skeptics here and I believe they would appreciate the courtesy. We have lived in fear for generations. First the Ritorians, now these Sojourners. I dream of a day when my people can sleep in peace."

How poetic, Von thought to herself. He was definitely a politician. "Then let's make it happen. Please have your cabinet members send their schedules to my yeoman and I'll make arrangements."

"I greatly appreciate that, Captain." The President said, nodding his head in that unsettling way that the Archans always seemed to. He smiled widely, showing too much gum, another weird little quirk of the Archans. "I will have my people, talk to your people."
