A Ferengi Rivalry

Posted on Fri Oct 2nd, 2015 @ 9:02am by Karx & Venin

Mission: By Dawn's Early Light
Location: Promenade Complex [Deck 588, Starbase 332]

Venin looked in disbelief at the well-appointed signage of the new bar which had just opened on deck 588, one of more than 100 promenade decks on Starbase 332. "I don't believe it."

Karx was having trouble grasping the exact reason for his brother's dismay. He looked from the new bar to his brother and back again before shrugging. "What does it matter?" he asked. "There has to be hundreds of other bars on the station."

"Yes brother, you're right, but not bars run by a Bajoran-Cardassian. Think of the damage it will do to everyone's business as people flock to see her and what she brings to the Promenade." Venin was reluctant to describe someone's ethnicity as a tourist attraction, even he was above that, but he had seen enough of Starbase 332's lollygaggers to know that it probably would be.

The younger of the brothers furrowed his brow and peered over at the new establishment, suddenly curious about a Bajoran-Cardassian. He wondered if her features would tend more toward Cardassian than Bajoran; far more attractive that way, in Karx's opinion. "I see," he said, not really understanding.

"Well, brother. Do you remember the crowd that formed when those two Nausicaans had a fight outside that bar on Risa?" He thought back to their pleasant holidays, spent on the Galaxy's paradise planet. "Everyone on the street stopped to look - to stare - and no-one thought to put a stop to it?"

Karx bared his teeth in a grin that squished his face. "That was a good fight," he said, deliberately not drawing attention to the fact that he had lost his latinum purse that day.

"No-one's going to put a stop to this and we, the humble Ferengi barkeeps, are going to go out of business!" Venin half-shrieked. "She's even got a better location."

"Everyone has a better location than we do," Karx murmured. He was starting to see his brother's point, even if he didn't necessarily think it was as bad as that. Still, it wouldn't do to have a potentially fatal competitor stealing their business. He looked back at Venin, "What should we do?"

Venin looked up conspiratorially at his brother. He had no idea but he knew that they had to do something. "First of all? We should welcome her to the Promenade."

Karx let out an excited squeal as a grin stretched across his face. "An excellent idea!"
