A Quick Meeting (Backpost)
Posted on Mon Feb 22nd, 2016 @ 5:53pm by Lieutenant Colonel Edward Maxwell & Colonel S'er'in'e
Mission:
By Dawn's Early Light
Location: CAG's Office
Timeline: Immediately after "Reaper's Return"
As Ed stepped into the nearest turbolift, he tapped his commbadge. He may as well be polite in the few spare moments he had before he had to do a complete systems check on his bird to ensure he had time to make any repairs to the Hunter system. He wouldn't be of much use in the coming fight if he couldn't knock back the jamming.
"Colonel Maxwell to Major S'er'in'e. What's your location?"
"CAG Office Colonel." S'er'in'e replied already deep in reports and investigations, sensors logged a few friendly fire incidents which always had to be investigated but he knew such things could happen in the heat of battle.
Ed could practically get to the CAG's office from anywhere on the station in his sleep, maybe even blindfolded if people stayed out of his way. Months of making that trip several times a day would do that for a person. He stepped out of the lift on the deck and took a moment to look around. These were his old stomping grounds and he was at home on this deck more so than anywhere else on the station, besides his quarters and the Exocet's hangar. He smiled politely and exchanged pleasantries with those who spoke to him, surprised to see him here.
It took some time to get through everyone and to his old office. Eventually though he reached his destination and pressed the door chime, even though the Major was expecting him, it was still polite to announce himself rather than walking right in. He might outrank the man, but this was his shop now.
"Enter." S'er'in'e spoke as he placed some documentation he was reading down on the table. He'd read the reports made by the Colonel during his time with the unit, praised them, kept records of accomplishments but also of defaults and punishments handed out. A double edged sword all leaders carried, praise could not exist without punishment, development couldn't take place without failure. The Colonel was well liked by his pilots and S'er'in'e hoped he'd do just as equally well in the role of CAG now that he was it, there were some changes he'd put into place since taking over but each CO had different ways of doing things, it was afterall to be expected.
Ed stepped into, what had until only a few short weeks ago, been his office. The office itself was unchanged, but the decoration and the man behind the desk were different. "Pardon my intrusion Major, I'm sure you're quite busy with preparations for the upcoming engagement, but I'd like to offer my services. Preliminary reports indicate heavy jamming and that's one thing the brass never did, despite my arguments, was put a wild weasel squadron out here. My bird has the gear to do it, if you'll let me."
S'er'in'e studied the man the reports spoke of for a moment. The term 'Wild Weasel' was new to him, he probably knew it under a Caitian designation however. "I am afraid I am unfamiliar with the term Wild Weasel Colonel, I may know it under a different name from the Human designation."
"Anti jamming fights. Jammers, sensors, anything to give the enemy an edge over us. I find it, I knock it out, Keep the field level for our people." Ed explained.
"I see." Such a thing was a Sree'lat in Caitian terms, a know tactic and tool used in the Caitian Defence Force. "I do not see why your craft should be excluded, initial reports indicate we will be outnumbered and even with station support it will be dangerous enough already for the pilots. You will have to confer with the Quartermaster for any munitions required."
"I'll talk to the Exocet's ground crew." Ed nodded. "The Quartermaster would send me to them anyway and we don't really have time to be running back and forth. I'll see you out there Major." Ed said with a wry grin as he stood up. It felt good to be getting back into the thick of things. After this the next time he'd be doing any dogfighting it would be back at the Marine Fighter School on Earth. Training hops against Federation pilots...
"Indeed Colonel." S'er'in'e saw that his own craft was also ready, plainly obvious by design that it was Caitian and yet to be painted Federation colours, which reminded him to have that sorted out for a more uniform wing look with the other fighters. One by one indicators turned green, one less fighter needing work, one more fighter ready for combat.
