[Log Begins]
Lieutenant Augustus Deakin is dead.
We managed to reach him in Telan's facility but we didn't anticipate his captor's end-game. The only thing I can think of is how... it started just as we were beaming back to the ship- I could hear it over the transporter but it just didn't... I don't know.
I'm imagining things. Darby's readings indicated that there were no lifesigns on the planetoid when we broke orbit. She assured me that the blast would have destroyed the kelbonite deposits which had stopped us reading lifesigns.
I'd like to place on record my gratitude for Deakin's extraordinary valour- he saved our lives down there. I will be recommending him for a... I suppose posthumous... Medal of Valour when I debrief Captain Von. Lieutenant Amelia Darby should also be commended for her actions in this mission.
The Montreal has set a course for base where Lieutenant Darby will be released back to Starfleet Intelligence and we'll have yet another name to add to the memorial wall.
