Ideas to the Captain [Backpost]

Mission: Brave New World
Location: Captain's Ready Room/Various
Timeline: After Target practice and before Meeting Sims

- Marine Commanding Officers Office - Marine Country -

Naomi was back in her office cleaning her Phaser Pistol version of a Desert Eagle, she had enjoyed her target practice with Vorran and interesting officer she thought. Her thoughts then fell back on her meeting with O'Hara and how she said that she would put her ideas to the Captain; so here she was finishing off her cleaning and then she gathered all the required material and reholstering her side-arm she picks up her stuff and made her way to the Captain's ready room. While en-route she realised that she would have to at least alert the Captain, she paused near a turbo lift and tapped her Commbadge.

"Major Griffiths to Captain Von"

Von answered the hail from her office. "Von here. What can I do for you, Major?"

"I have some nifty ideas to put to you Captain, I was wondering do you have any free time to hear them? It may even help with the staffing issues we have across the board too" Griffiths said.

The captain thought for a moment on the other end of the channel, checking her schedule. "I think I can make some time. It will give me an excuse to get out of my office. Shall I meet you at yours in about an hour?"

"Understood Captain, see you in an hour, Griffiths out" with the link closed she made a full turn and returned to her office, she saw paperwork all over the place, oh how she hated paperwork, so she tidied it all up and set things as straight as she could and while she was waiting she finished off some documents and some Padds and handed them over to some low-rank marines who took them to various departments while she put the finishing touches on her proposal.

As she just finished up she looked up to see the Captain enter the outer office, she waved Von in "thank you for seeing me at such short notice Captain" she said standing up as the Captain walked into the office.

Von stepped into Griffiths's office and took a seat. "My pleasure, Major. I'm just glad to get away from my office for a little while. What did you need to speak to me about?"

As she sat "It's about integrating my marines more into Starbase duties, I have a bunch of talented tech minded marines and as I have so many I figure I could assign some to various departments, I have spoken to Lieutenant O'Hara about this and he is up for it. But I've not had much chance to talk to the others yet. Before I did, I figured I would speak with you. Before I continue on with my proposal I got another item I would like to bring up." Griffiths paused for a moment. "Also I would like to have Omega Squad do duty as your personal guard on occasions, with things heating up out here on the frontier a Starfleet Captain has sector codes and a clearance that an enemy could extract if they truly wanted too, that bit depends on you though Captain," she asked. As she waited for the Captain to respond; "May I offer you a drink Captain?"

While she was waiting for the answers, she collated things about the proposal more in her mind.

It took Von a moment to let everything sink in. There was certainly a lot of information thrown her way all at once. She held her hands up as if to say slow down. "No thank you, Major. I'm fine without a drink. I think I had enough coffee this morning to hold me together the rest of the day. Let's slow down a bit and take your proposals one at a time. Let's talk about getting your marines more involved with the rest of the station's activities. I think this is something that we should raise to the other department heads. Lieutenant O'Hara might be good with the idea, but it's Commander Le's department. But there might be something that we can do. I would suggest writing up your proposal for what you expect your marines to be able to do, and we can see where they could be fit in."

"Who said I was offering coffee! No I was going to offer you some Bajoran spring wine, but never mind *pause* well I have a bunch of tech trained marines in the larger group of the Company and currently, their skills are going to waste. So I figured those who can I will assign to other departments, I would like to get all department heads together at some point, though, even the CAG. As some of my marines would make good pilots if they got more training, I will need to keep some back for the troop shuttles and such. As for putting a proposal forward, I work better off the cuff as I could plan a proposal now and by the time I present it to the Department heads things will have changed in some way, but there is plenty of time for that, just wanted to run it by you first"

"Once you get that detailed proposal, let me know. I'll take a look at it before I hand it over to Commander Soleck. Now for your second proposal. I'm not sure how I feel about that, to be honest, Major. I appreciate the concern for my safety, but I also don't want to feel like I am being babysat everywhere I go. There may be extenuating circumstances, but there are enough people concerned about safety on the station as it is. If I start acting like I need to have a personal guard everywhere I go, then that sends a message to the civilians on this station that they are not safe. We certainly don't need to be causing more fear on the station. We have enough of it as it is. But I'll take the offer under advisement."

She looked at the Captain with a mysterious smile "It will not be a whole Squad Captain and they will not be assigned to you 24/7; no there will be a minimum of eight assigned to your personal detail, four will go with you while the other four are on standby for emergencies; these two groups will rotate duties so as four will always be on call. Also, it would be a vase if you went say on a diplomatic mission only two marines would go with you to such a meeting, they will be lightly armed as in only a hand Phaser. The more hostile negotiations I would like to have all four go with you on it and will also be armed with only Hand Phasers. Captain, I am only asking and proposing this as the area we operate in is volatile and you have all the command codes to this station and other areas you have overall command over. It is a known fact that no matter who you are you will eventually talk after days of torture if captured. Now these proposed bodyguards will remain behind you at all times in most negotiations, they would only intervene if they perceive you to be in danger."

Naomi Paused allowing what she said to sink in, she hoped the Captain would take the offer, the guards would only be around when she would off the station on duty. Prior to this she had selected eight marines all with close quarters protection experience and told them if the Captain approved of the idea then they would accompany her only on official diplomatic meetings off the station; then she wondered if she had made that clear in her response.

"I'm not sure if I should feel appreciated that you are that worried about my safety, or insulted that you don't think I could handle a little torture," Von said somewhat dismissively. "Regardless, I'm not concerned with my command codes falling into enemy hands. If anything were to happen to me, standard procedure is that the command codes would be changed. I do appreciate the offer, Major, and I'll keep it in mind if I do go into hostile territory. But I do think that it would make me the only captain in Starfleet with a personal guard. But if I know that I'm going into a potentially hostile situation, like with what happened at Myaz, then I'll talk to you about making some arrangements."

"Please excuse Captain, I did not mean anything bad by it, its just a given that after three days everyone breaks, regardless of who you are, there are few who could hold off longer than that, admittedly there are some. Well as I cannot convince you I will make eight marines available to you on a regular basis, that will give you the option of using them or not. *pause* The codes for having them assigned when needed are Light, Medium and Heavy. Light would indicate two marines Medium four and Heavy all eight, those code words will be all you need Captain, so unless you call them you will not see them. I ask that you accept this method, just so I can sleep at night and not worry so much about my CO" Griffiths said hoping the Captain would accept that much.

"I'll tell you what, Major. Write up the proposal and send it to Yeoman Tarelle. She'll make sure I get it. I'll review it in more detail and let you know. If I know I'm going into a potentially hostile situation, then I'll give it some consideration."

Nodding, Naomi realised that this was as good as she was going to get from the Captain, as she was a tough and independent woman and did not easily bow to such suggestions. Despite her relenting, the Captain's stubbornness did grate on her some, it was as if the Captain was blind to the dangers out there! Naomi was not stupid, she knew full well the Captain was anything but blind to such dangers, still, it was vexing, but all Griffiths had for the Captain had been said.

Smiling "Well Captain, I have said everything I had planned on the docket, I also apologise for keeping you longer than what I had intended, I had only meant to have kept you a short time, but!" she inhaled in surprise as she looked at the time "Okay that is longer than expected, is there anything my Captain needs to ask before she leaves? As I have to get that proposal out to your Yeoman" Griffiths said and paused.

"No worries, Major. I'd just like to take a little more time to digest your proposals. Sometimes it's nicer to have it in writing rather than making a decision on the fly. I don't think there's anything that I need from you right now. Is there anything else that you need from me?"

"Understood Captain, thank you for making time out of your hectic schedule, now I have spoken with you what I wanted to, I will let you get back to your tasks," Griffith's said with a smile.

"Sound good, Major. I look forward to seeing your proposal." Von nodded to Griffiths and rose to her feet, heading off to get back to her other work.

With a final nod, Griffiths watches the Captain leave, just as a messages flashes up on her screen, she reads it and her heart sinks, it was a message, her father had just passed away.
