Riding the Waves with a Cat

Posted on Tue Oct 4th, 2016 @ 4:41am by Colonel S'er'in'e & Samanthia Akiashiro

Mission: Brave New World
Location: D-1403 Holodeck

// Holodeck : Akiashiro Deck 1403 //

The four of them moved to the Holodeck on Deck 1403 and entered it. Samanthia spoke up, "Surf 14, Caitian Safety protocols in effect."

As the holodeck grid faded to the beautiful North Shore of the Hawaiian Island. Soft sand and the big waves forming in their rush towards shore and then curling to form beautiful tubs of water to 'Shoot the Pipe'. Some waves rose and the curled to just collapse upon itself into white water rushing towards white sand beaches. A rack of surfboards in varying length appeared close by to choose from.

Samanthia inputted commands in the holodeck console and designed a surfboard for S'er'in'e to use and learn on. A wide smile and a bounce appeared in her steps as she removed her dress to show off her feminine physique in her one piece swimsuit. She pointed the newly created surfboard for S'er'in'e to use and began to teach him how to ride the surfboard, stand up on it. She was enjoying the moment. When she was confident that he had the basics down, they progressed to the water. She taught him how to get back on the surfboard if he fell off.

S'er'in'e was uneasy about this even after being explained what safety protacols were in place. Water, feline, two things most viewed as just not happening. It came as no surprise that her parents were off enjoying the waves, meanwhile he was enjoying the view. Torn between her instruction and the view he growled, low and rolling, face all predatory again as if stalking her and even going so far as licking his lips to savour the impending moment

Samanthia smile grew wider at his looks he gave her. It made her feel very attractive inside. "Try it again, only do it with purpose." And she talked him through, giving him the cue to respond to. After several run through, she nodded. "Now comes the fun part...." Picking up her board.

Her parents were already with their chosen boards, and making their way out past the waves to get ready for their first runs. Mogumu took off paddling and caught his first wave, followed by Sarah on the following wave.

Samanthia lead him into water with her board tucked under one arm itching to get out there and ride the waves. She had perpetual smile that lit up her face with warmth and anticipation. She stayed with Se'er'in'e and showed him how to lay on the board to paddle to move it in the desired direction.

S'er'in'e board was substantially larger given his size, he was still uneasy at this, as he understood the key was balance, felines had that down in spades but usually didn't come with a surround of water.

She leaned over and attached the little leash cord to his ankle that ran from surf board. "This is to keep it close by you." They paddled around, letting him get used to being on the surf board and the motion of the ocean. She had him make the board go faster, coast, dive the board through a wave. The fun easy stuff, letting him conquer his fears of being in the water.

She tipped his board over so he takes a dunking and watched him get back on the board, giving him advice. Then demonstrating to him how to do it quickly in the water. Where it was deeper and couldn't touch the bottom. She stayed nearby to reassure him everything was okay. She admired his courage and willingness to learn how to Surf.

S'er'in'e was not enjoying this, while water generally was disliked, depth of water was also an issue especially for someone his size and weight. Still however his Mate had requested it and even with his discomfort he'd do as asked. His board had already been the victim of many claw marks and gouges from slips and falls from it. "How do Humans find this enjoyable?" He asked, unsure how falling off a platform meant to be remained upon and getting wet at the same time.

"That," Samanthia pointed to her mother, "watch."

Sarah had turned her board and was paddling like mad to get her speed up as a fast approaching growing swell of water raced towards her, closing the distance on her from behind. A subtle shift in her weight tilted the surfboard just right, catching the face of the fast forming towering wave. Sarah stood with easy grace of practice, letting gravity drag her down the face of the wave. Once in position, turned the board back into the wave's forward momentum, lifting her back up the face of the wave to the mid point as the wave began to curl over the top of her. A few breathless moments later, Sarah shot out of the end of the collapsing pipe of rushing water towards the shore. "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Sarah screamed excitedly as she flipped the board over the top of wave to collapse down upon the board to rejoin her Husband, Mogumu.

The whole thing looked daunting, a battalion field operation looked easier by comparison. Seeing the wave rise then crash only to have Sarah race through its hollow centre he could see she enjoyed it, S'er'in'e would not. He was barely comfortable sitting on the board as instructed and the gentle rocking motion of the water it's only tilting action. "I see, and you do this?" He asked.

A look of pure childlike delight, excitement and yearning shown through her expression, warming her up immensely. Samanthia could only nod for a few seconds, then let out a breathless, "yeah..." Then it was her dad's turn for the next wave, he ended up zig-zagging up and down the waves face as this wasn't as high as his wife's wave. He reached the end and flipped his board over the top and settled back on his board to rejoin his wife. high-fiving each other. She turned and looked at him seeing his discomfort. She reached out and grasped his big paw-like hand with her's. "I was doing this since I was five years old. After I learned how to swim." Seeing the clawed up board he rode. She gave a soft giggle. "You're really are out of your element. Come on, lets return to shore."

"I will go, you enjoy yourself, I will sit and watch." It was the thought that counted but he didn't want to deprive her of having fun with her parents which she didn't apparently get to see very often. He was glad this was a holographic board, the marks and gouges upon it, some were rather deep.

"Thank you, Love!" Samanthia flopped forward and was soon darting out to where her parents waited to catch the waves. She dove through the inbound waves to continue her progress than to fight the waves. She arrived at where her parents waited for her to get out to where they waited to avoid crashing into her.

Samanthia spent s few moments with her parents talking. Enjoying the moment. Soon Mogumu took off and headed to shore catching a beautiful wave to ride in on. He rode the wave and dropped down a bit as the wave crested and began to curl over in a beautiful Pipe. He rode the Pipe and with good timing, shot out of the end as the pipe collapsed from the center outward. Instead of flipping the board outward, he headed towards shore.

S'er'in'e watched his Mate enjoy herself, he often saw her smile when around him and mostly because of him but it was also pleasing to see her laugh and smile because of others close to her.

Mogumu walked out of the Surf with his board and planted it in the sand next Se'er'in'e, looking at the clawed up board, laying there neglected and forlorn. "I'm surprised my daughter got you on a board and in the water." He flopped down next to S'er'in'e. "Knowing a bit about feline culture and their phobia of water."

"My Mate requested it, I obeyed." S'er'in'e replied feeling his fur harsh against his skin from the salt. "She seemed happy for the attempt and her happiness is all that matters to me." S'er'in'e spoke as his keen eyes watched Samanthia take on wave after incoming wave with practised ease.

"What do you do for fun and relaxation?" Mogumu asked as he turned his attention to the antics of his wife and daughter riding wave after wave. Sometimes sharing a wave, but heading in opposite directions.

"When my Mate is not around I will spend time in the Gym or work on my fighter. When she is present I will spend time with her, socialise as she wishes, I will cook meals and read." S'er'in'e replied still watching Samanthia. "My duties can interfere at times with our free time."

"Oh I know all about duties and how demanding Star fleet can be." Mogumu nodded as he watched the ladies ride the last wave in and dropping gracefully to their surf board.

Samanthia and her mother laughing and giving each other high fives and the graceful walk out of the surf with their boards. They came up and laid their board on the sand and laid on them. Sarah raised an eyebrow seeing the clawed up board of S'er'in'e's.

"Don't ask." Mogumu spoke sagely.

"Ser," Samanthia looked up at her mate next to her, she smiled at him. "I hope my dad hasn't been to rough on you." She got up and moved behind him. She began to rub his back, getting the salt off his fur and body.

"Not at all." S'er'in'e felt though kept silently to himself that being a large, heavy and armed feline it was somewhat difficult to be intimidated by the average size Human. Of course he'd never mention it but felt it perhaps was best face was saved for all and give a more suitable and acceptable answer.

The banter between the four of them ranged across the various topics from Fleet duties, jobs, children and other assorted subjects as the Iiawah's learned more about Caitian customs and S'er'in'e himself. Samanthia very carefully manipulated the conversation to avoid the killing of another Caitian by S'er'in'e and their fight in their private quarters.

After relaxing for a few more minutes and several more runs on the wave, Sarah stayed behind to keep S'er'in'e company, while Samanthia and her daddy Mogumu got carried away in doing tricks and stunts, trying to out do each other and wiping out a lot. At each wipe out, Sarah would laugh and grade the wipe out like she was judging them. She looked up at S'er'in'e after a very spectacular wipe out by Samanthia.

S'er'in'e watched as his Mate played in the water, some waves she rode to its surrender while some she surrendered to it. He need not fear for her, she was a capable swimmer it seemed and the board never far from her. He'd noticed the attention he'd been getting from Sarah. "Does something disturb you?" He asked wonder just what about him warranted such attention.

"Just wondering how you would react if this wasn't on a holodeck. But a real ocean on a planet." Sarah spoke watching him. "I also noticed the bite marks on her neck. From you?" Her voice soft with curiosity.

"Felines do not take well to water, I am large and of heavy build so swimming can be problematic. My Mate knows of my difficulty and takes it into consideration in her requests of me. Here is a holodeck so safety is present even from outside methods." He answered her first question. As to her second. "Indeed from me." He replied.

"Is that custom or was that a result of a fight?" Sarah looked out the two heading out for another run. Then stood up, "Tides coming in." She grabbed her board and moved farther back from the water that was rising up the beech, getting closer to them. She made a motion and several lawn chairs appeared all set up for them to sit on. One was designed for S'er'in'e to sit on.

"It is custom, when my Mate claimed me our ways dictate that our lives are afforded to the other. Before I was claimed I wore a collar which I have gifted her, she had to take that off me and regardless of her size she put her jaws to my throat. I was in no danger as her teeth pose no threat but mine do. When I did it though she showed no fear, no resentment, she knew the danger she was in yet did it willingly and without reservation." S'er'in'e replied having settled in the larger chair provided. "When I was claimed there is no pressure involved, I scent her, the act of risk and danger and I am claimed. During the fight however I don't think she fully understood what she means to me even beyond the Caitian bonding process. We fought and yet, when I did it, even angry as I was I could not hurt her. I understand harm must be inflicted for injuries such as that but I am confident if asked she would explain it better."

Sarah nodded. "It's going to be the same with children. Babies are at their most delicate and will be most disruptive at times. Even smelly." Sarah looked fondly out Samanthia with her dad. They was sitting on their boards out beyond the waves. "It is better to walk away from babies at such a delicate stage. "

"You are not the first to say that, my Mate has made similar comments and I will say to you what i have her." It was obvious that S'er'in'e was unamused with her comment. "Offspring of mine will be safe from me, I am forbidden to harm them as I am my Mate. Anyone else however....is a different matter." He didn't like people prejudging him for what he could do, there was no helping what he was but that didn't necessarily mean he would act as they thought he would especially from someone whom which he'd only just met to boot.

Sarah seen the slight posturing change, "Its a Mother's concern. If you think we're judging or stereotyping. Don't. As an actual mother, hopefully a grandmother. We got to air our concern even if it stomps all over someone's culture, traditions and beliefs." She smiled with mothers warmth for her new son-in-law.

S'er'in'e nodded, even if he didn't agree with her point of view. He looked out to the waves as they crashed over and over. His Mate enjoying her time with her Father surfing. "You seemed fascinated by me when we first met, you said you have encountered other of my kind before. Why so with me that you have not with other Caitians?"

"Others was business or in Social gatherings with others. My daughter is in a serious relationship with you. Not others." Sarah looked at him. "Which makes you family and I'm concerned for the happiness of my daughter."

"Is it concern for her happiness?" S'er'in'e questioned. "Or is it because I am Caitian and the inherent risk that brings to her. Is it concern for her safety or is it because you question her and her choice and those choices that lead to our union?" If anything, it was clear that his was agitated by what she said. "You Humans often say one thing but mean the other. You claim to not judge me but I can not help but feel judged. I can not help but feel that perhaps you would be more accepting if she was mated to another Human." A least a Human was not naturally armed with claws and fangs that could easily kill or perhaps not weigh over 500lbs that could crush a partner as they slept.

All his life people feared him for what he was, what he could do, the damage he could inflict. It had happened so many times both professionally and socially that it almost happened perhaps once or twice a month. He knew very well the damage he could do because after all, he was a natural predator. He could kill easily, harm another even easier but just because he could do something, didn't mean he would. Soo many people saw the what and not the who that made up S'er'in'e. "While I understand you have every right to be concerned, you do not know what will happen tomorrow, next week or next year. You are considering what might or could happen to effect her happiness and judging me to be the responsible party to it. There are far worse things to fear than me out there in the vast area of space, do not focus your judgement on me because of what might happen. My Mate is a grown woman, experienced in much including romantic situations having been Mated before, you should trust her judgement in what's best for her, not second guess it." He stood up on hands and feet to stretch as he felt his fur all stuff and course on him.

"I know that I can't be there to help protect my baby every day of her life." Sarah spoke softly, looking out at her daughter, just in time for a spectacular wipe-out that sent her head over heals into the water with a splash followed by the tip of the wave curling over to pound the spot where she went into the water. She gasps slightly as she rose to her feet to see Samanthia return to the surface. "And yes I'm scared for her when she is with you." She turned and looked at S'er'in'e. "Any mother that loves her family will always be concerned for their offspring and worry about their choices."

She glared at him, "And Don't bring up how I'd act differently if Samanthia was married to a human or any other humanoid male. I'd still be just as concerned. Just show it in a different manner." Sarah smiled at him as she brushed the sand off her and fixed the seat of her bathing suit as she walked off as Samanthia made her way towards the shore, letting the momentum of the dying wave carry her towards shore on her surfboard.

S'er'in'e watched Sarah walk away and noticed Samanthia heading towards the shore. He wondered if Sarah would speak to his Mate before she reached him. Bottom line as he saw it was that her fear of him was at the core of the issue. Normally he'd be fine with people fearing him, a healthy dose of fear often prevented people from committing silly mistakes, especially where he was concerned. However Sarah was different, the Mother of Samanthia and even though it angered him to be judged so, it was ultimatly Sarah's issue and not his own. He didn't have to like or accept her methods because all that mattered was Samanthia and she to him was safe with him.

Letting a pent up growl slip between clenched jaws once Sarah was out of ear shot.

Sarah met Samanthia at the edge of the water, soon both her laughing at some comment as they turned to watch the last ride of her husband. It was flawless in execution and a work of art. Riding the board through the surf. The three of them turned and walked back to join S'er'in'e. Samanthia rushed a head a bit, dropping her board on the sand to give S'er'in'e a hug.

"We're going to meet up at Warp-12, later with Mom and Dad." Samanthia announced and then gave her parents a hug. She watched them take off. "Mom got to ya?" She spoke once her parents had left.

S'er'in'e growled. As much as he didn't want to show the impact of what was said he found it difficult. "She fears for you because of what I am, she judges me because of what I am. She questions if you have made the best choice because of what I am." He looked round at the empty beach and the waves crashing against the beach. "I know what I am is a danger to you, the marks on your neck no doubt aided in the view that has been taken. But they know nothing of me or my ways, I am no ordinary Caitian and those of my Caste are held to a higher standard than most. I have little doubt a worry as much as large as hers would be present if you were Mated to another Human."

"I'd worry if she didn't question my choices." Samanthia looked up at him. "All that matters is that we love each other not to harm each other. No matter how it may seam to others." She snuggled in close against him. "If it becomes to much of a problem. We can always transfer to another Starbase."

She ended the program as they made their way to the exit.

"Indeed." He held on to her. He lifted up her outer layer again which she brought with her to cover up again.
