Mission: Lie Of Omission
Location: Secondary Security Centre [Deck 585]
Timeline: Case Day 1

"I need a favour." All the usual pleasantries had gone out of the window in the first few minutes of their reunion - Lazlo didn't really seem the type and Gunning had some drunken kid to track down.

Laz turned around, surprised to find his old boss standing behind him, "The hell... Oh, hi. Sure, I'm good. How are you? Really? Great, well yeah, it is a shock to see you back, seein' as how you left in a hurry last time. Yeah, yeah, everything has been fine. Sure, Chief, what can I do for ya?" Lazlo rattled off flatly.

"I need to get everything I can on a student at the Archan Institute, name of Andrew Wyke." Gunning didn't really expect the detective to help, if he'd actually wanted help he would have gone to ch'Darnath. He had hoped that Lazlo might inadvertently give him a lead on some of the more down-home summer dives.

"Hold on, man," Lazlo replied, raising a hand to stop him. "First of all, what the hell are you doing back on station? And second of all, what the hell do you need this information for?" He asked, sounding a little on the annoyed side. "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see you, but you ain't givin' me much to go on, and I can't just hand over this kind of info to a civilian, no matter who he used to be."

"Uhh, yeah. Career change." Gunning replied to the detective's first question with a sidestep. "As for why I need it, the kid's gone missing and his mother's hired me to track him down. I can get the information from the Institute but let's face it, he's just got lost on some bender and found himself in a backstreet."

Lazlo eyed him for a minute, seeming to consider what the man said, then let out a little chuckle, "How long you reckon I've been in this business, Gunning?" He asked, simply.

"I'm hoping about ten minutes and you've got a zip up your back." Gunning smiled. "Seriously though, she's the overbearing type. You couldn't write a more open and shut case. That being said though, I doubt she's going to be paying me for counselling so I'd better track the kid down." He produced a PADD and placed it in Lazlo's outstretched hand. "This is what I've got from her and from a couple of tentative enquiries. I'm going to head down to the surface this afternoon to pick up the trail."

Laz narrowed his eyes at the younger man for a moment, then looked down at the PADD in his hand, swiping through the information it contained. He grumbled quietly to himself, "Yeah... Yeah, maybe I can help you out this with. I don't know. Gimme till tomorrow and let me see if there's anything I can give you that won't get me fired, okay?"

"You," Gunning was already halfway out the door walking backwards to maintain something approaching eye contact, "are a gentleman and a scholar, Lazlo."
