Mission:
Shadows and Whispers
Location: S'er'in'e's Office
Timeline: Backpost - Prior to "The Shuttle"
Soleck made little wasted time in getting to S'er'in'e's office after his discussion with Austin and Liara. If their suppositions was correct, then the Caitian pilot could be in serious danger.
He made his way to his office and tapped the chime, waiting for an answer.
S'er'in'e was reviewing the latest patrol reports and flight diagnostics on the fighters since some had been recently repaired and certified as cleared for flight. There was understandably a air of unease since pilots grew attached to fighters they flew, S'er'in'e was no different. "Yes come." S'er'in'e called out as he was flicking between two interesting reports.
"Lieutenant Colonel," Soleck said as he entered the room, "I trust I'm not interrupting anything?" He asked, coming to a stop behind the chair across from the Colonel's desk.
"Nothing vital no." S'er'in'e answered puzzled as to why the Commander was here, it was rare for any of the command staff to venture down this way. "Is there something I can do for you Commander?"
"I have a rather unusual question for you, Colonel," Soleck said as he took a seat and steepled his fingers in front of his face, "Is there anyone who would be benefitted by your death?" He asked, bluntly. He saw no need to beat around the bush on this matter. Lives may be at stake.
S'er'in'e gave the man a stare, twas an unusual question indeed. "A few on the Homeworld, Caste ways are not popular with others, they view us as backward, holding onto the past." S'er'in'e put the report he was reading down. "My time in Starfleet has no doubt garnered some disfavour with some, past missions, combat, I am a difficult individual to forget for obvious reasons." He pondered if this was something to do with the shuttle incident. "Few I believe would act on it, Cr'erl was the only one to date to do so and it was clear how that ended."
"So I've read," Soleck replied, nodding. "Lieutenant Commander Le found evidence of tampering with the shuttle that you and Captain Von were in. It is viable to believe that one or both of you were specifically targeted and not meant to return," He replied, simply. "I find that a highly concerning prospect," He said, earnestly.
"Understandibly, there was no immediate indications of trouble until it had taken place, no warning indicators, alarms or back up activation alerts, it simply happened." S'er'in'e explained remembering the difficulty he had keeping the shuttle going. "In any event I believe the Captain should be the primary focus of any effort, protection or otherwise as the ranking officer."
"She is already under supervision and being carefully monitored, which means you are my next priority," Soleck explained.
"Commander I would not waste any effort on me. I work here, spend most of my time here and when I am not I am on the Akiashiro deck which you can only access if approved to do so. I am capable of defending myself as you no doubt are aware." S'er'in'e would have guessed the new First Officer would have read all major incident reports of recent times. "I would focus on the Captain, she has more import than myself."
"As I said, she is already under supervision," He replied, calmly. "My concern lies in the ease with which the shuttle was sabotaged. It leads me to believe that this may be someone who appears to be a member of the crew. Perhaps even someone that you are close with and my allow within your guard. You will forgive my insistence that someone accompany you until this issue is resolved." He said.
"As accommodating as I can be Commander while I am on the main decks by all means assign an escort but be aware that they will not be permitted onto the Akiashiro deck where I reside. Tensions are already high between Elder Akiashiro and Starfleet, I will not bring my matters home with me nor a security detail to further stir tensions. They have in place a privately owned security force, competent and vigilant. All entry and exits are check pointed, entry by approval only or turned away and reported." S'er'in'e did not want to disrupt the harmony on the deck, especially since he resided there. His introduction to Samanthia's life and his link to Starfleet had caused enough of a stir. It was as he saw it the best compromise available to him.
"Of course, Colonel," Soleck said, nodding. "I would not want to interrupt your sanctuary aboard the station," He explained. "You are content to allow my men to follow up to and from the entrances to that area, correct?"
"Of course." S'er'in'e answered. While security was always welcome, as long as it didn't get in the way of his duties. "Will there be anything else Commander?" He asked.
"No, that will be all, Colonel," Soleck said, nodding and standing. "Thank you for your time. You'll find my our security officers waiting for you outside of your office, and outside of the Akiashiro decks where you reside to escort you until we can resolve this issue and determine the root of the threat," Soleck said, offering a slight nod before leaving the office.
