SAR/Paramedic Staff Meeting

Posted on Wed Aug 16th, 2017 @ 1:27pm by Ensign Jenna Steel & Lieutenant Caitlin O'Reilly MD & Master Warrant Officer Daron Kader & Chief Petty Officer Tookl

Mission: A Day in the Life
Location: Medical Conference Room
Timeline: 1030

ON:

"Look forward to working with you," Dr. Cameron said with a smile and wave. He was the last one of the senior ER staff to leave the meeting.

Cate waved back and nodded as she put aside the PADD she had used to display the new shift set up and took another one out of her brief case. She plugged it into the conference table's terminal and a duty roster appeared on the viewing screen at the front of the room. She took out another PADD and had it ready with the information it held. While she waited for everyone of her Search and Rescue/Paramedics to arrive, she went over to the replicator and ordered another cup of coffee.

Daron was the first to walk into the conference room. He smiled and nodded at the new boss. "Good morning, Dr. O'Reilly. I'm Daron Kader. Paramedic. I'm currently assigned to....," he began to say.

"Team 3," Cate said, glancing down at her PADD. "You're stationed on Deck 13. Is your partner coming?"

"He's on his way," Daron said, taking a seat.

"Sorry I'm late," Tookl said, breathlessly, as he rushed though the door.

"You're not," Cate chuckled. "And you are?"

"My partner," Daron said, shaking his head.

"CPO Tookl. Paramedic extraordinaire," the Catullan said, sitting next to Daron. "You must be our new boss."

"I am," Cate said with a smile. Had to love paramedics and their inflated egos. They earned them everyday.

Jenna walked into the conference room, on time for once. "Morning all." She said, then looking to the front of the room. "Doctor. Ensign Steel, Paramedic." She said, taking her seat.

Scott strolled through the door and nodded to the others seated then took a seat just as Henro...the station's other Catullan, entered and plopped down next to Jenna.

Cate looked at the ranks on the two new joiners' collars and checked her list. "You would be our SAR pilot, Lt. Russell?" she asked, looking at Scott who gave her a two finger salute. "And Ens. Henro."

"I am," Henro said with a smile.

"Welcome everyone. I am Dr. Cate O'Reilly and I am the new Chief of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Response," Cate began. "I wanted to meet with you because you are the team leaders for our First Responders here on the station and I need to make you aware of a few changes. The ED is going to be going to 12 hour shifts. 3 days on, 4 off. During station wide emergency situations...yellow and red alerts...your teams will work 24 on 24 off for the duration of the alert." She put the schedule on the main viewer showing what teams were scheduled as A shift and which ones were their relief. "There are, currently, only 150 of you so you are going to be covering a much larger area than you will once we get more paramedics. I am hoping to, eventually, get enough that one team will only have to cover two decks. Since I am new here and haven't had a chance to walk the decks, I welcome any advice as to where you all think we need the most coverage and where we need the least."

Jenna studied the plan for a moment, and then stood up. "I would suggest more coverage on the promenade, and main engineering. That's where we've had the most accidents over the last few months, the habitat decks are probably the least busy." She said, nodding.

"I agree," Scott said.

"The marine decks," Tookl added. "Those guys are always needing medical aid."

"692," Daron spoke up. "The school deck. And the engineering decks."

Cate smiled. "Jenna....you have been here the longest. Do you think you could draw up a temporary station assignment plan and give us better coverage until we get more paramedics?"

Jenna nodded. "I'll have it to you by tomorrow." She said, smiling.

Scott lifted his hand and asked, "any idea when I might get a team for the Medical transport?"

Cate looked around at those at the table and asked, "any volunteers? You would be on call and would need to be ready to deploy at a moment's notice."

Jenna had always wanted to be a part of the SAR team onboard the station, and realized now would be a perfect opportunity and put her hand up. "Stick me down for that boss!" She said.

Cate smiled. "Thank you, Jenna," she said. "Get with Scott after the meeting."

Scott smiled at Jenna. "Glad to have you," he said. "Welcome."

"Anyone else?" Cate asked, looking around the room.

Henro lifted his hand, while keeping his elbow on the top of the table. "Sure....why not," he said.

Scott smirked at Henro and gave him a thumbs up.

Henro shot Scott with his fingers and made a clicking sound then returned the smirk.

Scott looked back at Cate and said, "we went through the EFTS course together. Too bad he doesn't know how to fly. I could use a copilot."

"I fly," Henro said with another smirk. "Just not in the conventional sense."

Several chuckles and snerks filled the room.

"Alright....OK...," Cate said with a snicker. "Scott....I will find you a copilot if I have to go kidnap one from flight control and train them in emergency medicine myself. Have you had a chance to look over your shuttle?"

"I have," Scott said. "Now that I have a team I would like us to go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure it is stocked and equipped to our specifications."

"Sounds like a good idea," Cate said. "Get back to me when you know what you need." She looked around the room and said, "I just want everyone to know that I only have one rule. Our patients come first. We are medical providers before we are Starfleet officers. If you have a Petty Officer bleeding from an artery and an Admiral walks in with a hangnail....the Admiral waits." Then she shrugged and added, "make that two rules. We are a team. We work together. There is no room for showboaters in emergency medicine." She smiled. "I look forward to working with you all," she concluded. "That said....I think we're done here," she said and shut down the main viewer.

Scott gathered his notes and got up. "I'll be down in the shuttlebay if anyone wants to join me," he said and headed out of the conference room.

Jenna stood from her place and picked up her PADD. Hearing Scott's shout, she left the Conference Room, and headed down to the shuttlebay.

Others followed and the room emptied. Cate smiled. "Good staff," she said to herself and grabbed her PADDs then walked out herself.
