The Niagara had now arrived and her crew had found themselves reassigned from the luxury of a Sovereign class to smaller and more cramped Sabre and Defiant class vessels. So far he had been assigned two medical staff from the ship. He had no idea why a ship of this size would be assigned a counselor but was sure he was going to find out.

He was pleased that the ship was being assigned a relatively large medical staff, a flying shotgun would no doubt run into more adverse conditions than most Starships and he was pleased that they'd be in a position to protect the crew's wellbeing should that happen.

Melissa had been running on four hours of sleep since the Niagara arrived. Now she had to report in. Furthermore, she wanted a bed, and it did not matter how cramped it was. But still, she had to put forth a good first impression, and she had to keep herself awake. She pushed the doorchime.

"Come in." Came the reply from beyond the door.

She walked in, "Doctor Melissa Daniels..." she yawned, ".... reporting as ordered." She spoke again. "Sorry Sir, I've been traveling across two sectors to get here today."

"That's quite all right, Doctor. It's just good to have you with us." Gunning felt himself stifling a yawn too. He'd not slept since before he could remember and suddenly he was absolutely shattered. "I know how you feel, to be honest."

Cal's trot through the promenade had been an interesting one, and she hoped to get a chance to see some of the base before they shipped out. The stalled start on the Niagara had left her feeling discouraged but she was thankful for the opportunity that had arisen in her transfer to the Jackal. She rang the chime and waited, anticipation making itself apparent as she rolled up on the balls of her feet and back down while she waited.

"Come on in."

She entered to find that the doctor from the Niagara was occupying a seat across from the Commander, and she couldn't help but grin. "Good evening," she said to them both, taking her own seat and favoring Melissa with a wide grin. It seemed that fate was intent on keeping their path crossed.

"Ahh, good. Take a seat Lieutenant Roland." The Commanding Officer smiled.

Melissa turned toward Callaigh. "Hey Lieutenant, whats up? Miss me?" She said with her usual smile.

Callaigh chuckled as she took her seat. "Commander, Ms. Daniels." It would be good to have a familiar face around.

"Niagara's going in for refit I guess, and we've been reassigned together. Talk about a small world." She said with a smile.

"Isn't it funny," Cal said, "we join wanting to get a taste of the great wide unknown and yet, we revolve in such small circles."

Melissa spoke, "I guess we share quarters on this ship huh?"

Cal turned a questioning look to the CO. She hadn't had a chance to check out the bunking situation yet. She could think of worse people to share her space with, she guessed; though she didn't know the medical officer well enough to be exactly pleased about it. Coming from a single child home, Callaigh was used to and cherished her personal space.

Melissa smiled as she spoke, "Seriously, and shared showers too. Looks like we're roughing it for a while Counselor. Think we can get some marshmallows out and sing campfire songs?"

"Unfortunately the space on the Jackal is such that it is necessary for people to share quarters. It's entirely up to you whether you want to share with each other or not but I'll let you deal with the Quartermaster for that one." He replied.

Melissa spoke, "C'mon Counselor, it won't be that bad to share quarters with others on the crew. Think of it as having pleasant company over all the time." She wasn't sure that made the Counselor feel any better.

"Exactly, Counselor. The rest of the crew are consummate professionals..." He smiled widely. "I hope."

That made her grin. "Forgive me for saying so Sir, but I hope that's not entirely true. It would make my job a bit less fascinating." She then favored Melissa with the same smile. "Can you strum a guitar, doctor? I think I still remember all the words to Kumbaya."

Melissa spoke, "I've never been very good at the Guitar, but I love Karaoke."

Alex was pleased that the two women seemed to get on well. It was a load off his mind with him not knowing them previously. He took a moment to make a couple of notes on his PaDD before looking them both in the eye.

"Okay, ladies. You're dismissed. Report to the Quartermaster and he'll assign you your quarters and security clearances. I will see you in the Starbase lounge in one hour"
