Mission:
Weathering the Storm
Location: 1403 Akiashiro Deck
As time slowly crepted towards the time for Space storm to arrive, everyone had found their spot to wait for the passing of the storm. Children ran around, playing and getting underfoot of the Adults. Adults formed groups within their friends and work groups. Security keeping an eye on things, ready to react to any problems when you have a large amounts of people confined to an area that once was spacious, but now crowded.
Samanthia held Mariah on her lap and in her arms. A few who was given a chair to sit on. Even Tamarue had given up her right to have a chair also so that other mothers with babies could be comfortable. Samanthia sat on one of the more comfortable chairs.
"I hope your husband is okay, being in Fleet." One of nearby mothers spoke softly to Samanthia. Not to wake their children they held.
"Same here. You are fortunate to have your husband working here." Samanthia smiled at the other woman. "Knowing Ser. He'll be in the thick of thing." A trace of worry and pride was heard in her voice.
"After this. We may put in for a transfer to another location that is more stable." Another spoke up just as quietly as the first. "Even though this is a choice location, but not as safe for children."
Samanthia just nodded, who had lost her children and first mate in what should've been a secure sector. "Out here had been a rougher in the past few months."
"Living anywhere is dangerous unless you want to be planet bound." Another of nearby mothers spoke. "Even then it has its own dangers different than living in a tin can out here in space." Giving a soft chuckle.
"At least when your home falls apart. You don't have to worry about decompression or loss of air!" Replied the woman, shifting her baby to another arm.
"At least you don't have to worry about the lingering effects of freezing to death. Or exposure to the elements." The age old argument of the dangers of living on a starbase continued.
Samanthia tuned it out, feeling restless. She stood, seeing that Mariah was still asleep laid her on the chair in a fashion that she would roll off it. She looked at one of the mothers who nodded that she would keep an eye on her child. She gave a soft smile and wandered between the various groups. Listening on the various conversation, trying to glean what information she could.
She watched a work party carry in a bunch of mattresses and stacked them up against the wall, while others brought in crates of preserved food still in their containers. he prepping for the storm continued as Several of the Security kept monitoring Fleet radio bands on the approaching storm.
Raphael stood like the ruler of his fiefdom, listening to his advisors, Chief Security on the updates and keeping track of the Ion Storm that was fast approaching. He gave orders and watched them carried out. He nodded to Samanthia as she passed by.
"Excuse me." He stepped away from his group and approached her. "How are you and Mariah doing?" He looked over to where Mariah was at.
"We're doing fine. At least she's asleep for now." Samanthia gave a soft smile. "I'm more worried about S'er'in'e." She gave herself a hug. "He has his duties as I have mine. I just hope he'll be more focused on his and not worry about us to much."
"You weathered Ion Storms before?" Raphael looked back at hoping for any information that may effect those relied on him for job, residence and general well being while here on the Starbase.
"Once. Main concern will be disruption in power. And a lot of safe guards are dependent on that. Structure Integrity Fields, Artificial Gravity generators. Life support." Samanthia softly spoke to Raphael. "Too bad these starbases are not well structured for space travel. Just to drift in space."
Raphael nodded. Just more common knowledge, he already knew. "Stick close to Tamarue incase we have to evacuate." He turned and walked away to rejoin his group.
Samanthia nodded to his retreating back and meandered back over to where Mariah was stirring, letting out soft me-ews.
