Asking for Help

Posted on Wed May 22nd, 2019 @ 10:37pm by Captain Liarra Von

Mission: Starbase 332, Where Are You?
Location: Admiral S'iraa's Office

Liarra smiled to the yeoman sitting outside Admiral S'iraa's new office. While the yeoman was on loan to the admiral until he could get his own staff, if he was ever able to get his own staff to the station, Von knew he still needed someone to help take care of administrative duties. The yeoman smiled back from her desk. "Good morning, Captain. What can I do for you?"

"Good morning, Yeoman. Is Admiral S'iraa available?" Liarra asked. "I was hoping that I could have a moment with him."

The yeoman checked her console. "He is in his office. I'll see if he has a moment." She pressed a button on the comm panel built in to her desk. "Admiral S'iraa, I have Captain Von here to see you."

"Send her in." S'iraa spoke as he was sitting at the desk reviewing a few things that were by nature routine since he got on board. There were a few requests mostly to operations for additional monitors and connections, engineering too for a bigger and sturdier bed to reflect not just his Wife, but also himself within it, a total weight over easily over 700lbs in total.

He wondered what the Captain would want but he would find out soon enough.

Liarra thanked the yeoman and stepped into the office. "Good morning, Admiral. I hope I'm not disturbing you. Have you found your office acceptable?"

"Good morning." S'iraa replied looking at the Captain once again illustrating the differences between the two large felines where S'er'in'e would have bowed in greeting to her. "Acceptable, yes. The Yeoman particularly so." He added. "Is there something I can do for you Captain?"

"I'm glad to hear it. There actually is something that you may be able to help me with. My chief science officer and his chief of astrometrics have come up with a plan to better determine our present location. We need to send out a few ships to extend our sensor range. We have our three garrison ships, but with your permission, I'd like to ask a few of docked starships to accompany them."

"If you can assure the safety of them, by all means. If we are indeed displaced, we have no idea what dangers lurk, or if by inciting we lure in more." S'iraa replied, however he knew this was Von's station yet she asked for help and he would provide it in what form needed.

Von considered the condition for a moment. "With all due respect, sir, I think we both know that I can't guarantee their safety. But we all know that when we signed up for the job. That said, my primary reason for sending the ships in pairs to better protect them. And unless we can increase our sensor range, we're going to have difficulty locating our position, or determining if there is anyone friendly near us."

"This is your station Captain, I am not here to observe, I only sought to place my flag on a station, not a starship." S'iraa replied. "While I appreciate you seeking my advice, I agree that something needs to be done and while happy to offer experienced advice, I am confident you have the trained crew available for such tasks. Your own reports speak highly of them." Giving away that S'iraa had been nosing around recent affairs on the station to keep some tabs.

"Thank you, sir. I've been very proud of my crew. We've been through a few crisis situations together already. I'm confident that we can get through this one." Liarra wasn't surprised that Admiral S'iraa had been checking up on them, but knowing that he had did add an extra element to the situation. "I will contact the other captains that are currently stuck in our docks and look for volunteers."

"Very well." S'iraa remarked as he studied the Captain. He wished he could say that he didn't miss the enjoyment of command, the centre chair, a starship but life has a way of changing priorities and a family will certainly do that.

"There is one other thing, sir," Liarra added, with a hint of hesitation. "My chief science officer believes that our relocation was due to a wormhole that is semi stable. He believes that the end that left us here is free roaming, but the other end is somehow linked to the ion storm. It's only a hypothesis, but sensors did detect significant evidence to suggest that it was a wormhole. There may be a way to attract the free end to us, but there is no guarantee that it will return us to where we left. My officers are investigating that as a course of action, but they're also searching for any other ideas that may carry less risk."

"If that is possible, it is worth looking into. With haste too before the dissipation of the storm itself." S'iraa had no desire to remain stranded, where ever they happened to find themselves currently.

"Agreed." Liarra had no more desire to remain here than the admiral. "Commanders Drusus and Prescott are among the best, sir. If anyone can find a way to get us home, it will be the two of them."

"Then I shall keep you no longer Captain. I am hopeful they will have an update for you when you return to Operations." While he himself was thankful for the update himself, he knew partially at least it was because of his rank that prompted it.

Liarra bowed her head in S'iraa's direction. "Thank you, sir. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to let us know."

With acknowledgement that she was dismissed, Liarra turned on her heels and made her way back out of the admiral's office. Once she was well out of earshot, she released a sigh. With everything that had happened to the station since she had been on board: the bombing, the Sojourner attack, and now this; how could anyone expect to guarantee the safety of the station residents. It only further planted doubt in her mind as she made her way back to the turbolift.
