Natural Causes

Mission: Luck Be a Lady

Felicie walked into Medical, glancing around for the familiar face of the Vulcan medical officer. She had specifically asked that the death be assigned to Lieutenant Commander Decan for review. Though she expected nothing out of the ordinary, there was no signs of anything that would indicate either murder or suicide, she required an autopsy to be completed before she could close the case out.

"Commander Decan," she offered a smile as he appeared around a corner. "I hope I'm not interrupting?"

"Commander." Decan nodded to Felicie."Not at all." He said removing his gloves to discard them. He quickly jotted a note and returned his attention to the Security Officer. "It is curious, to say the very least." He admitted. Deep down we wanted to say more, because the things he'd found were truly boggling.

"Curious?" Felicie asked, her brow furrowing. "What makes it so curious? When we responded to the call there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary, even the attending doctor called it a natural death?"

"There is extraordinary evidence of recent dermal regeneration. An extensive amount of it." Decan spoke in a tone that was final, not inviting questions to his analysis. "Otherwise the autopsy provided very little insight."

Felicie thumbed the PaDD in her hand and scanned through the data. "His file shows he was an avid sportsman on the holodeck, could the dermal regeneration have been from sports related injuries?" she asked.

"It could be that." Decan conceded. "Though we should have some record of the treatments. I'll admit some of my comrades are lacking in the administration department, it's likely it simply wasn't logged properly." He picked up his PADD. "As of now we are noting sudden death, likely brought on by natural causes." He looked into the Security Head's eyes.

"Wouldn't be the first time someone has self healed," Felicie said with a shrug. "I have a dermal regenerator in my quarters, I'm sure I'm not the only one." She paused. "So we're happy to sign this off as natural death and I can close the case file out?"

Doctor Decan looked at his PADD once again and cocked his head to the side. He returned his gaze to Commander Rivero. "Yes, I believe we can make that determination."

A momentary look of relief washed over Felicie's face. "One less thing for me to stress about. I'll have Operations pack down his department and let Captain Vonn know, she'll need to contact next of kin. Having a cause of death will at least make that part easier."

"I will forward the certificate of death and a copy of my report to your office and the Captain." The Vulcan set his PADD aside and glanced at the corpse. "If I can be of further assistance, I am here to serve."

"Thank you Commander, your time is always appreciated. If I have any questions about the report I'll let you know." With a smile, Felicie gave a nod and started for the door.
