Sky was a deep blue with a few whispy white clouds tinged with deep purplish pink from the sun, that not more than a few minutes, had dropped below the watery horizon and the ocean as calm as any lake sparkling with the ambient light. A light breeze of warm air gently blew her deep black hair abit that had gotten loose from her ponytail that hung down her sun tanned skin, caressing her bare back as the beeze played with her hair.
The thin materiel of her wrap-around at her waist, hem tickled her mid thighs as she took graceful steps and the breeze moved the light materiels.
She sighed softly, just drifting aimlessly along with the others out for an evening stroll, seeing couples and single people of varying ages moving at various speeds as something dictated their pace. Her eyes didn't linger on the couples as it brought back memories of her family and her walks with them. Some of the single men looked her over with appreciative glances, hope of something more, yet either too shy or they had someone waiting. Or even like her, preferrring the solitude of being by themselves, yet around others.
A friendly nod and soft smile to those that shared a similiar greeting to her as they passed going in opposite direction. A wave to return, yet letting each be for the moment as she was deep in reflection or they was. It was the perfect moment where time, even as it still progressed in it stately manner, seamed to stop to stretch the moment on to infinity.
Even the laughter of the groups gathering on the beach around a roaring fire and loud music, seamed so far away, yet still within a comfortable stones throw away. Some waving and yelling to her to join them for some festivities that they was sharing with friends and whom ever wanted to crash their gathering to share in the moment of some celebration. She would smile and ruefully shake her head no as she continued to aimlessy walk along the water's edge as it lapped at her bare feet on the wet sand that seamed packed yet soft at the same time.
A soft smile graced her lips as she had the best of two worlds. A career and it wasn't even as a Fleeter, but a Civilian on the edge of the known Galaxy. What mysteries still lay out there undecovered, yet not wanting to do so. Maybe in the future, she'll sign on to a ship as a lounge manager. She was thankful that Fido stepped in to run the place as things were getting abit too active and trouble brewing on the horizon.
"Maybe we ought to jump onto a ship, and see the galaxy while we're young still. I'm sure we could get the same berthing on a ship..." A smooth baritone voice that was used to being around loud machinery and arch-welders, softened with warmth of closeness that love could provide a couple.
"I know, Nick. We have to think of our daughters." softly mutters to the uncaring, playful warm breeze and the ocean a deeper darker blue, reflecting the darkening sky to allow the stronger stars to show through. "Alot of ships usually finds trouble alot more than starbases." She ruefully shakes her head at remembering the strong tremors of the explosion that took her family away from her and resigning from fleet.
She wanted to be as far away from the core sector of familiar space and painful memories of war, acts of terrorism and the political drama that went with a highly developed sector. A war that took her father and mother away from her along with the ship she had called home.
"Sammy Sammy...why so glum. This place is gotta be better than anything I've known. At least we had our time together."
A stab of pain shoots through her as she wilts to the wet sand, burying her face in her hands. Visibly and physically she was in perfect health. But an old wound still festered below the surface as moments like these lets the demons of the past out. A tear leaks out between the closed eyelids.
"You know why..." softly whispers to the water that now soaks her wrap-around, raising millions little goose bumps at the now cold water ebbing and flowing across her thighs and legs as she sits there. "You and the girls are not here to share this with me." looking up to stare out into infinity of the sky, out toward and past the watery horizon. "I died when I found out of your's and the girl's passing from that vicious act.." hugging herself just below her chest.
Fighting the raging emotions and quelling them before she became to depressed to enjoy her time away from the hustle and demands of her work. She felt the same old hatred drove her to be recruited by Isotep and at herself losing control along with the guilt of not being with her daughter on their school trip to see the big fleet ships that went out to explore the vastness of space.
She wanted to scream her fustrations out and run ramped to inflict the pain and loss on others. The surge of energy driving her to her feet and the long walk back. Maybe should've taken the offer of Isotep's in order to pass on the hurt and anguish of having to lose those that was closed to you.
"Damn you," she swore turning her anger on something she could tangibly direct her anguish on, "for giving me the taste of your life in the shadows." striding abit too fast back the way she had came as if the shades of the past were chasing her, teasing her, yet allowing her to set the pace of the chase.
Already the station was in civil unrest against the newest Commander of SB-332. The previous Commander had let Civilians take charge of the station and Akiashiro, Rapheal decided to take an advantage of upgrading his powerbase.
She had leased a house close to the beach, within easy walking distance. At least her stuff was safe here with her on the planet. But then it was the Akiashiro's planetside residence. Pausing at her unattended stuff to put on a tanktop as it was now getting chilly, removing her drying bikini bottom from under the wrap around and putting on black cargo pants. She looked around as she removed her wrap-around and folded it with her bikini bottoms within it. She stood there and finished off her juice that she had brought along with her.
With a quick look around as she folded up her large beach towel and stuffed in her daypack along with drying clothes. Slinging her pack straps over one shoulder, headed off the beach away from the ocean. Much calmer. Once off the soft sand, she put on her sandels and headed up the street towards her temporary residence. She looked at the beach parties going on. There seamed to be more of them and ones already there were growing bigger.
She paused, looking at them, then up the street towards her place to stay, empty. She sighed and turned back towards the beach, once again removing her sandels to go barefoot on the cooling sands of the beach. Pausing to stuff the sandels into the pack, along with her valuables.
Seeing the area where people had dropped off their stuff to go join in on one of the many parties on the beach, she added her pack as soon as she saw there was security watching over the stuff. She smiled at him as he lifted his bottle of local beer towards her with a toothy grin.
"You Star Fleet?" He asked her as she put her stuff on a numbered shelf and taking the same numbered tag from it.
"I'm a Citizen of the Federation and work on the starbase," Samanthia pointed up to the stars overhead, glancing his way. "Why are all the people gathering here?"
"You dont know why?" Abit surprised. "It's Liberation Day from the Ritorian!" Exclaims excitedly watching her with interest. "You're definity an Offworlder!"
Samanthia nodded smiling at the man as he handed her bottle of beer, chilled and the cap missing. She took it and raised it up, "Cheers!" and took a healthy swig of the smooth tasting brew along with him. "Sol-3..that is where I'm from... Have similiar celibrations."
She looked the guy over. He wasn't handsome and a bit overweight, as she took a seat next to him on the lounge chair, getting comfortable. "Sammy," simply intro'ed herself to him.
"Ben," as they clinked bottle tops together in introduction as he lifted his hand to move a few greying hairs back away from his weather worn face. "I hope you aint afraid of a little fireworks going off. It is said you can see them from space once they get going." As Ben settled back on his seat, finishing off his brew and tossing the empty into a box that held a few already.
Samanthia laughed lightly, "I loved them as a child and missed them when my folks and I left Earth for the stars."
"Good, you're in for a real treat!" Exclaims abit loudly, pulling out a fresh bottle for the both of them and removing the caps deftly before handing one over to her. "They with Starfleet?" settling back in his lounger, watching her wiggle her toes.
"Yeah, they served aboard a medical ship along with me, tagging along for the ride." Samanthia spoke softly, setting down the beer next to her chair.
"So I take it..you followed in their footsteps?" He inquired, waving to a couple he knew in acknowledgement to their more vocal greetings of him.
"For several years and then I resigned when I found my own career path." She spoke as she looked around at the milling people on the beach celibrating with family and friends mixed in with music. Relaxing under the assualt of alcohol and the friendly atmosphere of the celibration in full swing.
Plates of food appeared for the both of them, her's more towards her human physilogy than his. She smiled her thanks to the person that brought them over to her.
"So what do you do on the orbiting station?" Ben asked between bites of his barbequed meats and swigs of beer.
"I run a bar/lounge for everyone that comes through the station." Samanthia looks abit dreamily as she eats, responding between bites of food and drink. "What is it you do?" wiping her hands free from the sauce and grease.
"I run the local waverider boards that I either sell or lease to people who are abit more ambitious to enjoy the ocean other than swimming close to shore."
"It seams to be pretty calm out there.." Nodding towards the ocean, digging into the spiced salad and chips.
"Farther north is were all the good waves are at. I could treat you and take you for a spin on a waverider board?" Ben smiled, taking a sip of his beer.
Samanthia smiled softly, "I'd love to." Hearing a whooosh and looking up and towards the Ocean sky dotted with stars, in time to see the first burst of fireworks exploding in granduar, still jumped when the sound of the fireworks going off.
For the next several hours, It was filled the cheering of the crowds and fireworks going off in rapid session, music playing admist the crowds forgotten as everyone's attention was on the display of exploding fireworks in their multicolored granduer.
Samanthia forgot about her demons of the past as she slowly gotten intoxicated and the company of Ben, feeling young once more as she enjoyed the time watching and having no responcibilities at the moment.
